You don't want people in your country illegally. Whether or not the man was polite and a hard worker is beside the point. While the sentence seems a little harsh by my standards, its much better than the situation we have in america, where even if we do jump over the beurocratic obstacles to deport an illegal mexican criminal (a real criminal, too, not just an alien) They can just walk back into the country and kill more people. One man killed three people drunk driving and just kept coming back into the country after each one.

By punishing that one hard worker you're speaking of, perhaps there was no gain. But by keeping immigration strictly regulated, you avoid our issues.

That has nothing to do with racism!! That has to do with laws being broken and the perpetrator caught! He chose to play the game with the illegal card, now its time to pay. An illegal knows full well they are illegal and going the extra mile to obtain fraudulent documents/passports or other identification is another illegal activity. Cudos to those who took action!

I do feel though, deportation is a better sentence than 8 more months on the taxpayer's dime.

You're another one who believes the government when they say the Brits don't do whatever work he does so the position is not able to be filled! Myself and alot of other Brits have/are applying for minimum wage jobs including veg picking,cleaning etc and being told they only take foreigners or automatically turned away cos they're British!I've already rang up racial discrimination about some jobs/employers and I'm a born and bred Brit!

He entered a country illegally, he obtained illegal documents by doing so he endangered your husband but some liberal thinking within you seems to think that laws or your husbands business don't matter. "wow don't illegals make great workers, we can use them like slaves, they don't ask for petty things like workers rights, like those lazy Brits" I'm sure if your or your husbands job was undercut by an illegal you wouldn't have been so quick to defend him.

You should be grateful that your husband was not arrested for hiring him. I understand that forgeries can be hard to spot, but if officials REALLY wanted to push the issue, they could have given your husband a minor charge. If a person has knowingly broken the law, as this employee did, then they should have to face the consequences and do the time/face deportation.

Having said that you seem to have lost an employee....
Could he not have applied for papers retrospectively?, and kept his job....
Difficult to say but 8 months is harsh when worse crimes get lesser sentences...

The sentence sounds very harsh, he merley should have been deported as he broke the law when he entered illegally to get an 8 months sentence he must have done something else. You seem to have used the rest of your question to have a go at the British workforce labelling them lazy, isn't it strange how where always being told not to label all immigrants and yet some choose to label our own.

First off, there was NOTHING racist about Lisa's answer. She was 100% correct in her answer. It is bleeding hearts like yourself that make it so easy for the "1 bad apple" to get mixed in with the good bunch. There are immigration facilities, there are immigration laws. The immigrant has a choice and this one chose his negative consequences.

For a minute there I was expecting you to say your husband was going to be prosecuted, which would be unfair.

You should understand that there is no point in having rules and regulations regarding immigration if they are not being enforced and acted on. Sure he seemed like a good employee , hard working and all the rest of it and there are many other illegals who are far more deserving of deportation , no doubt. That is just how it goes sometimes.

You say he was filling a job that no British wanted etc, that may be true. If it is I am sure there were other suitable, legal immigrant applicants.

Obviously your are being blinded by something. The key word is "ILLEGAL". Most ILLEGALS do work hard and stay under the radar. Maybe this is not his first time getting caught and they are punishing hin for being a dumba$$.

Stop worrying abou the one ILLEGAL, and focus on giving the job to someone who is here LEGALLY. Or, better yet born here.

He broke the laws of the land. He sought, or he forged documents to do that. Eight months is a good length of time for that conduct.

And while burglars are ugly, document forgery is actually a good deal worse.

No benefit at all, I own an electrical contraction company and i employ more polish than british now as they are hardworking and loyal then any other britsh counterparts

I think it is ridiculous filling up the prisons which should be full of drug dealers, rapists, murderers, etc. He was doing a service to the country and as you stated his work record was excellent and he was contributing to the economy rather than sponging off the dole. Immigrants that work in this country are often hard working as they want a continuous wage to provide for their family....like any other person. My Grandfathers were immigrants and they worked hard and all of my family have worked and contributed to the country's economy....do not tar immigrants with the same brush!
