Hey dude its great here. I did that about 2 years ago. Its not easy though and costs a fair bit of money. However not everyone is welcome and so you have to pass tests and inspections. Its worth the hassle if you can adapt to the lifestyle change.
Canada is not the UK and the pace of life is slower but safer.
If you apply from within Canada under one of the many classes of immigration available then it takes anywhere from 9-18 months. From the U.K anywhere from 18 months to 3 years.
Oh and watch how you bad mouth your own country. Patriatism is valued here even for a foreign country. |

With an attitude like that, am sure we are more than happy to let you go, but doubt if Canada would welcome you. |

This may not sound like help to you but ENSURE you can get a work permit there before you go and that whatever you don't like about the UK is not exactly the same there first - you might be better off going to the EU (eg Spain, Denmark or Ireland), US, Asia or just crossing the English city-country-suburbs divide instead. |

Hiya.. well I hope you have plenty of money to support yourself for at least 7 months anyhow..
Unless you've worked for a Canadian company in the UK or elsewhere for at least a year or so, you won't find it easy to get work in Canada..
Canadians won't employ you until you have worked at least 6 months on a voluntary basis.. this is so you learn how the work practise system works..
Sorry to dissolution you.. I would have liked to go there too.. but can't afford the six months self funding without a job thing..
Good luck.. |

I've lived in Canada for the last four years. The immigration procedure is easy if you are skilled in one of the trades in demand here. Or if you have notorious achievements.
As a published researcher in the field of plant biochemistry and as a polyglot, I didn't have any trouble getting a visa to work in Canada, and latter obtaning permanent resident status.
I suggest you inquire to find out what trades are in demand here, and check your own qualifications against their requirements. Also, a good command of both English and French would be a plus. Good luck. |

I think your expectations of Canada as a refuge from the problems of the USA are unrealistic. Don't let any smug Canadian spin his/her country as a great alternative - we're just as bad, and we hide it better.
Sidenote: Canadians as socialists? HA, look at our Global Warming-denying prime minister!
I see that Fox and CNN has worked its magic on Americans - for some reason most of these answers are fairly negative towards Canada. |

Seeing as how America is turning into a third world slum in most places due to the illegal immigration problem I wouldn't blame you. |

Sad, but all Western civilisations --that is countries from the UK to Oz, Canada and the US are being turned to, as you so articulately said it, holes of various content.
If one doesn't like one place, then another, that person can simply take turns trying different ones until at last returning to the first.
