Liberals, how can you call someone who was born here an immigrant?

Liberals want everything in the world to be blurred...No white and black issues, No real math,"fuzzie math"...2x2 = 4 or 5...yeah. All Liberals are not logical and sometimes border on Mental Illness. Did you see Nancy saying, "unemployment is one of the best initiatives to help create jobs we have". Now what Kinda Mentally ill statement is that?....botox has gone to her brain, and she should resign due to Dementia. Every country has sovereignty, so why can't America? We simply cannot have anyone who is born here being an American. Other countries give the baby it's mother's citizenship and we should to. The only reason we had Born as to define citizenship was to include blacks after the civil war as citizens. It is being interpreted incorrectly and we need to revise the outdated definition.

As you know, people frequently have misunderstandings of the definition of words. Ever since 1789, the dictionary has defined "immigrant" as one that immigrates; as a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence. So, to say that, "We are all immigrants," would be clearly either a misunderstanding of the word or an intentional use of the word to mislead others.

If you followed the logic that, "We are all immigrants," then you would believe that English was our second language. You would believe that we were all fleeing religious persecution, and that we all arrived in the U.S. by wooden boats.

If my great-grandfather was a bartender, does that mean "We are all bartenders"? Obviously, it's a silly and perhaps desperate attempt to convince others of something that isn't true but sounds good. There are probably dozens of words in the dictionary that we don't know the definitions of, and "immigrant" seems to be one of them for some people.

By that logic nine tenths of the planet would be "immigrants" since there are very few people living in the same place their ancestors were a thousand or even a hundred years ago. Even the so called indigenous came from somewhere other than where they live now.

For the most part we are immigrants in a way, 350 to 400 years ago most of our fore fathers came to this Country from England.
But no long are we call immigrants we are now Citizens of the United States of America, we were from England but now no longer.
You see blacks still think of them self as Africans but that is not true if you were born he then you are just and American.

I am not an immigrant.....I am a 9th generation AMERICAN.....my ancestors arrived from Germany in the mid 1700's......and American Indian blood runs through my veins.....so get over it.

The phrase is ""We are a nation of immigrants". It's not my problem if you are incapable of understanding the broader meaning of that phrase and can't think beyond the literal meaning of the words. Your question is yet another example of people repeating talking points without actually thinking about them first.

When have you heard a Liberal call anyone who was born here an immigrant? It is usually the anti-immigration crowd who say these kinds of things. Usually conservative/republicans. Not liberals.

I am a liberal, and have never once said anything like that. What I do believe should happen is automatic birth right citizenship should be done away with. The US is one of the last countries to still follow this archaic practice. I believe when a child is born in the US, in order to be a citizen one of their parents needs to be a citizen, or have legal permanent residency. This will also solve the issue of "anchor babies" as well. In turn it will cut back on the amount of illegal immigration.
