I came here almost 4 years ago, with my passport and a visa LEGALLY. I over stayed my visit when I fell in love with my now husband. We got Married 2 years ago and I would like to get my green card so I can get my licence, get a job legally and pay taxes.
How do I start?
What are the steps of getting a green card(paper work, interview etc)?
How long can you have a green card for?
Any info would help. I know what I did was wrong and I should have went back to Canada but I really did get married for love, as you can see I didnt go and apply for a green card the day after I got married.

Once my husbands does the I-130 with the USCIS paper work what happends? We get a call and they tell me if I get a green card or if they want to deport me?
Is there any interviews or anything like that?
If you know what happends Step-By- Step that would help out al lot!

First thing your husband needs to do is to file I-130. The paperwork is hectic but you can do it. Visit the USCIS website and it gives you detailed information about how to file and where to file. It's good that you have waited 2 years, because you will get a 10 yr green card if approved instead on 2 years. Good luck---so get going! If you file now, you'll have a SS# and work permit before the year ends! |

Since you entered with a valid visa, you are eligible to adjust status within the US.

it will cost you about 3500$ or more to apply for a green card thru a lawyer but you have a 100% chance of getting a green card,do it right away before i.n.s catches you. |

This can be tricky and while you can follow the advice the other people gave you, you should have an immigration lawyer handle this. Yes it is expensive but because he did not apply for a marriage visa for you when he was supposed to, if this not done exactly right, you could be deported. |
