After you get married you could to try and file to have his status adjusted. Not sure how well it would work. When I married my now husband, he had come over on a visitors visa, then we got married and were successful in adjusting his status. Now he has his green card and is actually a customer service manager for a VERY large bank.
Good luck. But if he has to go back in order for him to be here legal, it is better to do things that way. It is a VERY VERY expensive process going through the system. Be prepared to shovel out the money.
I recommend finding a very good immigration attorney

Marriage does not change immigration status. If he is illegal, he would have to go back to his home country and start the application process from there.

I really hope that youre not one of the people who would marry an alien just so that they could help their citizenship. Never the less, US citizens cant get work with college degrees, MBAs, PhDs, etc, so I dont think he really stands a chance.
I know you cant marry an illegal and make him legal, but if hes already here and has a "partial" citizenship, if he gets married to a us citizen, i think they can stay. |

It all depends on his skill sets. If he has unique skills and these skills are in demand he will get one quickly. |

It depends on his immigration status.
Marriage to a US Citizen does not grant any rights of residency or citizenship, so unless he has a visa that allows him to work or a green card allowing him to work, he can not. |
