if i marry an illegal immigarnt in the US, does he automatically become legal?

Nope, you still have to file the papers for him to be here and as of last year there was a two year wait. It is a hassle but worth it for the one you love, I cannot imagine doing it for a favor.
First there is the actual costs of filing the forms, up to 400 for one paper, and if you fill it out wrong and have to resubmit, you have to re-pay the processing fee. I learned that the hard way, then I had to fork over money to an immigration attny.
Then you have to prove you are able to support this person once they gain status. Its not easy, I am a nurse and make good money and still had to get my parent to co sponsor my husband. Both myself and my parents had to sign papers stating that is he ever went on on any govt. programs within the first two years of marriage we would have to pay the money back .
Then you have to think about the issue of immigration fraud, you can get into major poopie if it can be proven that you only married to help get a green card.
The interviewers are good at what they do. You really have to KNOW the person inside and out to be able to answer most of the questions they ask.
If that is the route you want to go, it is not my place to tell you no, but it is pain in the butt and very expensive thing to do.

No, not any more. BTW, this is a very, very bad idea. It will cause you nothing but problems. I know several girls who did this. One of them is dead.

Noooo, it is a long process involving tons of interviews with INS and background checks. It takes at least a couple of months. |

not automatically. usually you have to be married for a certain amount of time so he can become legal, and you need to prove others that the marriage isnt based on you trying to turn him into an american citizen. just a bit of advice though. you should never marry an illegal immigrant. the reason being is that if you are only marrying them for the sake of keeping them in the country, then you're wasting your life because you're not really marrying out of love for one another, and therefore in that way, the marriage would seem fake. you really have to think about this decision wisely |

NO, it still takes him years to become legal, altho , he can apply for a green card in order to try to stay here untill all the legal steps have been taken. |

He is illegal which means he's a criminal and subject to deportation.
Why would you even consider marriage to a criminal/illegal??
The law has changed because too many illegals were marrying US citizens to stay in the US. |
