It's usually the National Guard who will help the border patrol in watching our borders, but again, they are in Iraq in mass. State governors, particularly in southwestern areas, have complained to the Feds that there isn't enough manpower to handle emergencies, much less the borders. Minutemen will be used until the Guard comes home to help out border patrol agents, and maybe beyond that time if illegal immigration doesn't slow down. This issue is a bipartisan one, not one party versus the other.

You are only partially correct. Yes-the National Guard, Border Patrol and the Regular Military all need to be increased. They need more people to secure our borders.
However, you are completely out of line with calling "The Minutemen" morons!! They are simply doing what we all should be doing. Helping to enforce the law. All they are doing is observing and reporting. If you saw a man beating a woman with a bat, you are under no obligation to actually stop it but you do have an obligation to report it!

Wrong! The United States was founded on the notion that we as citizens are responsible for both making and enforcing the law. Its called civic-mindedness. The Minutemen are helping the border patrol enforce our laws. And they do it for free! What a bargain. I agree that we should invest more money in law enforcement - esp at the southern border, but we haven't. The Minutemen live down there, If you consistently saw a crime being committed in your neighborhood, wouldn't you report it. Maybe you'd organize a neighborhood watch to help the police catch the criminals. Its the same thing. I'm proud to live in a country where my fellow citizens take care of me.

They are volunteers.
They are volunteers that recognize the importance of border security and that also recognize the impact of unregulated immigration and illegal criminal trespassing have had upon this great nation.
They are doing every American a great service by doing what the government has been unwillling to do.
They are keeping all Americans safe even the ones that confuse the issue of border security with racism.
They are a team that take great pride in America and that honor the title of citizen by recognizing criminal behavior and doing what is neccessary to put a stop to it within the confines of the law- wouldn't it be nice if the same could be said about everyone who lived in America.

They are average Americans that have a serious concern over the known problems of our borders and willingly give of their own time - at a cost to themselves since they are not paid to do so. The positions that they hold in their day to day life covers a wide range of American society and cultures. It is because of their real concern that they donate their time to do something that our government seems not willing to do at this time and keep giving proof that the problem is very real and needs to be addressed. Frankly, we need more such concerned citizens. Not just to sit on the borders - but willing to press local and federal authorities to follow known laws.

I do agree that they need more border agents. I also would add that they need to allow the agents to enforce the known laws and quit putting in them in jail when they encounter situations with known drug dealers. They need to allow them to do their job. Thank God that they are not doing with our southern border what Mexico is with their southern border - or we would have massive numbers of raped and murdered illegals literally making a human wall across our southern border.

The National Guard has no authority as it stands now at the border. They literally are placing themselves in dangerous situations and being told that they are not allowed to fire - and not allowed to detain. I keep wondering since such is true - why they are there to begin with.

Minutemen do nothing more than observe and report. There may be a few that take the law into their own hands, but for the most part they are passive. So as there are no more Border Patrol agents, and the Guard will not be given the authority to act, someone there to keep an eye out is better than nothing.

I agree - its like trying to stop a flood with your finger. Thier heart is in the right place, but the real deal with illegal immigration will be the reason they all come - illegal employers.

Thier efforts would be better spent campaigning for mindnumbing penailties for the illegal employers who employ them, and a citizens miltia to counter the crime wave about to hit the US when GDP turns down further.

when the US comes to the conclusion that we need labor from Mexico than we can humanely solve this problem, I believe our government and business lobbies take advantage of cheap labor, someone than can be abused and underpaid...it is all about greed, employers should be penalized for hiring illegals, and our leaders should allow people to come over on a work permit program and given a fair wage and treatment, it is not christian to treat illegals the way we do. minutemen are misguided and mostly racist bigots.I am a republican conservative and catholic....

Bigots got us in this mess by tolerating the hiring of illegal workers for three generations, by letting businesses avoid paying American workers a legal and decent wage, and by tolerating and maintaining a second-class citizenry to exploit.
