Moving to the Uk with an Australian Passport but with birth country UK. Do you need British Passport.?

My daughter is moving to the UK. She has an Australian Passport - Place of birth UK. Can she use the Australian Passport or does she need a British one. I assume it is the place of birth that is important.
Can she travel on the Australian Passport with a one way ticket.

She can only get a British passport if she qualifies for UK citizenship and simply being born there isn't enough for that. If at least one of her parents is a UK citizen 'otherwise than by descent', she is a UK citizen 'by descent' and can apply for a British passport which will of course allow her to live and work there without restricitions.

If she doesn't qualify as above, but has a British grandparent, she can apply for an ancestry visa which allows her to live and work in the UK but on her Australian passport.

If none of the above fits her situation, she must apply for a work visa for which she must qualify though she may be able to get a Working Holiday visa for a couple of years.

The answer to your one way ticket question will depend on what visa she is on. On an ancestry visa she wouldn't need a return ticket, but on any type of short term visa, she will.

As long as she has the proper work/residence visa, then she can move to the UK on a one-way ticket. If she doesn't, then she will not only need a return ticket, but also proof of funds to support herself during her visit to the UK as she will not be able to work.

It would be easier to find out if she is eligible for UK citizenship and if she is, to get a UK passport before she leaves Australia. That way there will be no questions on entering the country on a one-way ticket and she will legally be able to work

if she was born in UK after January 1st, 1983 and both her parents were temporary workers or visitors (not permanent settlers) at the time of her birth, then she is NOT a british citizen under their laws.

So an australian passport is fine.
