My boyfriend is here legally in the USA, but its lost right now and we want to travel to Mexico this summer, but we don't know the legal aspects of it.

Yes he can travel to Mexico BUT he may not be able to re-enter with out the green card. Have the card replaced soonest. |

Sure, he can go to mexico.
When he applies for admission to the United States he must present his I-551 (LPR Card). Failure to have the card, at a border crossing can result in a fine. Failure to carry the card while in the United States can result in being detained.
Contact USCIS and apply for a new card immediately. |
