Your answer is a combination of the answers given. You should get rid of the liquor, but that may not stop him from getting it elswhere so you will also need to talk to him and get to the root of his problem. Also, he just may have too much time on his hands sign him up for some activities, community service -something. Another suggestion that maybe helpful is take him to an AA meeting. Let him see first hand how it effects others.

explain the effects of alcohol in the civilized manner. If you beat him and tell him not to, guess what??? that's the first thing he's gonna do when you're not looking. Why not tell him about ruined lives, chronic illnesses, possible alcoholism? Whatever you do, don't threaten or beat him

make him research the effects of alcohol consumption and write you a paper - and help him research it. this will kepe him busy and inform him of the consequences of early drinking etc.

You don't want to hear this, but you asked: Stop beating him and start talking to him.

Sit down with him at a neutral location when you are not mad. Ask him what's going on. Tell him you love him and you always will, but you are very worried and it is not acceptable that he either try to have fun or solve his problems with alcohol.

I promise you that something is going on, and you are more likely to find out what it is if you go about it as someone who has his back than someone who's whipping his backside.

Maybe he's feeling left out or unpopular at school; maybe he's being bullied; maybe he's smaller than the other boys; maybe he's worried about his grades. You need to find out what it is and what you can do to help.

Tell him that one day soon he will be an adult and he will have problems to solve, so it's important that he learn how to solve problems now and keep practicing problem-solving so he will be good at it when he's grown up. And tell him that getting drunk does not solve anything because the problem is still there when you sober up.

Talk to him like he's smart and talk to him the same way you would talk to a friend or someone you loved. You do love him, don't you? Then start talking!

Kids follow you example....unfortunatly you already set him down a path that you probably cant control from here on out....you can beat him all you want, alcohol use will probably be ingraned in him until HE decides to give it up...which probably wont happen until he is an adult.....Id suggest you do just about everything with in your power to keep alcohol away from him....keep it locked....hidden....or better yet dont keep any alcohol in the house....that is your responsibility as a parent....also like someone else stated try to find out why he does it....then subsitute the alcohol with something that will benifit him...if he has nothing to do in the house buy him some video games so he has something to do....if he does it because he is insecure....sign him up for some kind of sport....if he does it to hide the pain....find the root of it and counter it with something productive....educate him the best you can....but I know from experience.....You start bad habits when your young....you will continue them well through out life until you become disciplined enough to change those habits through self-elightenment.......

Hit him harder every time he drinks, I mean really lay the boots to him soon enough he will relate drinking to pain and stop drinking cuz it hurts to much.
