My mum and I planning to move from Australia to USA.?

My mum and I planning to move from Australia to USA.?

My mum and I live in Australia and we are considering moving to the USA. I'm 13 and she's 44. My dad will stay in Australia but we plan to visit him yearly.

We want to move because of a change of lifestyle and I've always wanted to live the American Dream. I have 2 aunties that live in Portland. My mum is unemployed and didn't have any formal education (she came to Australia as a Cambodian Refugee in 1986). She is planning on finding a job in day care if we move there.

I don't know how the US Immigration works, so it would be nice if someone explained it to me. Also, how long do you think the process will take?
Additional Details
I'm obviously still going to school.

I'm afraid that it's just not going to work.

Just as we in Australia wouldn't allow someone who isn't a refugee to move here if they have no formal education or skills, neither will the USA allow you to move there. Your mother was once a refugee but having been accepted by Australia, she is no longer one and will only be accepted by the USA if she is educated and has some significant skills to offer the country. Added to the fact that she has no formal education, she has apparently been on benefits in Australia and would presumably want the same thing in the States (where there is incidentally no Medicare or anything like that to pay medical and hospital bills) and there is no way they will accept anyone who will become an immediate (or future) drain on their economy.

Stay in Australia until you can qualify for US permanent residence (a green card) in your own right. Until then, it's just not going to be possible.

Ignore all the other answers.

Your mother's sisters in Portland can easily sponsor her immigration petition as long as they are US citizens. However, a sibling petition is 4th preference and it will take 11 years for your mother to get her immigrant visa.

Your mother can keep her Australian citizenship too.

If your mother is not currently working and cannot prove she has enough money to support both of you, there is no way she will be able to get a visa

And right now, you are better off staying in Australia - the economy is better, uneployment is lower, and you have a much better chance of achieving your dream. The US economy is a nightmare and only expected to get worse before it gets better.

Your mother can visit the USA but cannot work here without university level qualifications and an employer willing to sponsor her. All the can do is visit here for up to 3 months at a time. Work is out of the question.

As well, an employer sponsorship will take about 6 years to go through and will likely be rejected as the employer has to offer the job to unemployed Americans first. There are plenty of Americans for day care work.

If you plan on living here in america illegal do not even bother on coming here, there is no such thing as the american dream here anymore, and life style has changed, america is really facing some rough times with the economy and many banks are going out people losing there houses and unemployment rate sky rocketing, people are not nice every man for themselves survival of the fittest, that here in phx arizona currently, if you drive without a license you get your car towed for a month collage is like 1000 per credit out of state tuition and its just getting ridicules here.

Well, its not that easy, you mom needs a greencard to work here and in order to get that you need to have a bachelors degree + at least 2 years of work experience. You also can have your aunt apply for your mom but that can take up to 10 years.

I dont know how your government works but here, anything the government has to do with takes forever. Id look at at least 90 days for the visa. Your mom will need a special one to work. Your aunts can help her arrange her job early, that could expedite the paperwork.
Dont pay any attention to the negative stuff people said. the american dream is still here.
