Since I got canned from Wal-Mart, my parents haven't been allowing me to apply for jobs until they could see some improvements. Well, now I'm getting better.
At Wal-Mart, a coworker I used to get along with pissed me off one day. I went to lunch to cool off but only returned to walk up to her and start a big fight on the salesfloor. mgt let me off w/ a warning and said there better not be another incident. A few days later, that cowoker didn't apologize or forgive me. I was also ostracized by some other coworkers bc of that fight. I couldn't take that crap so I banged my head into the fitting room pole in front of customers. The one with a child reported me and I got canned for workplace violence. I ended up w/ gross misconduct on my record.
Now I want to apply to other large retailers, esp at or near the mall. What are my chances they'll take me. I've got some good references.

the good references may help BUT of the employer asks you, where you used to work and why you left, you need to tell them the truth.
So if they call walmart (which they have every right to do) and wal mart tells them you were fired for violence -well then - Goodbye new job
To put it another way, you may have some difficulty getting any new job.
The best way to get around this is to NOT mention ANYTHING about working at walmart. NOT in your resume, not in your cover letter and definitely not when you are in the interview.
Of course they may still ask if you worked anywhere else. They have every right to ask that. If you hesitate before you answer - they will pounce and ask where you worked and why you are not still there. |
