My third interview went well, but what do I do now?

During my third job interview with the federal government, the hiring official discussed salary, start date, and my transition to Washington, DC. However, she did not offer me the job. What should I think? When should I call to follow-up?

If they didn't tell you a time that they'll call you back by, I would call back in a week to follow up. Make sure to follow up; I did it on my last job interview and I was offered the job right then. |

I wouldn't wait a week to follow up. If you don't hear from them within a day or two, I'd call back and ask for confirmation. |

You should think that you might get it and might not. At this stage nothing is for certain. Just because they mention start dates and salary does not mean its yours just yet.
Don't call them, instead, send a nice letter thanking them for interviewing you and maybe throw in some complements about the company/workplace/co-workers etc.
Then just wait. They'll let you know. |
