Need URGENT HELP to get back into USA asap after 90 day overstay

Ok I really need some advice....
I am a British Citizen and I flew to the US in march last year to be with my fiance who is American. We had planned for me to just stay the 3 months as allowed on the tourist visa but we ended up getting married in May before my tourist visa had expired. We were then planning to do a 2nd wedding in England for our families but my husband's mum has terminal cancer and was so sick we decided to just do another wedding for them in June so that she wouldn't miss seeing her son get married. This led to an overstay.
We left the US in Sept, which meant that I had overstayed by 90 days. We are currently in New Zealand on a years working holiday visa and have been here for 5 months. But, we are going to have to cut this trip short as my husbands mum has gotten worse, the chemo isn't working and we need to get back to her.
Now, my husband has just told me that he called the US embassy here in New Zealand and they told him that basically I overstayed so I can never get in on a tourist visa again and if i want to re-enter the States then I'll have to file the I-130 but this could take 6 months and I dont think we have that!! I NEED HELP. Please can someone tell me if there's any other way I can get back in, I need to be with my mother-in-law, this is my last chance!!
I wondered if I got my passport re-issued in my married name (as it is still in my maiden name now) whether this would work and get me into the states? Seeing as my overstay was in my maiden name, will this work?
