Obama is sending 1500 troops to support defending the border!?

It seems to be a "ploy" (time will tell though.) In order to pacify anti-illegals (70% of Americans) and pre-empt Republicans vote on this subject, which would have been much stronger in support of sending TROOPS to the border. Obama is pulling wool over our eyes by sending token "troops" to the border. These troops will not be involved in apprehending illegals, nor enforcing immigration laws, but will be doing "surveillance" & "patrols" - at least for first few days, so as to make it look like Obama is finally listening to people he serves. In reality it probably is just a ploy, I doubt he changed his stance on the issue of illegals and suddenly made 360' turnabout and now wants to enforce immigration laws, and solve this huge problem. he is still working on 'amnestisizing' these illegal criminals...(he`s a "wolf in sheep`s clothing" that can not be trusted.)..And maybe-just maybe- now that his illegal dear auntie is IN -has been given asylum- he no longer gives a ka-ka about other illegals, and wants to "hang them out to dry"..if that would give him a better chance of winning re-election in 2012.

I saw 1200 troops, which seems low to me, 12,000 would be better, hopefully more will go soon, this will be popular with everyone almost.

Yes, I saw that. Can't say how much politics had to do with it, but if it did, that's the way the system is supposed to work, right? Government listening to the people.

So long as he didn't dispatch them to keep law enforcement from doing its job, I have no trouble with it.

I think it's more to stop the Mexican Cartels. Not so much about enforcing immigration policy.

Pacifika is already calling it a war crime. Activists are on a bus to Phoenix this weekend without ID to try to goad the police into arresting them for "the crime of being brown". I truly hope the PPD and silly Sheriff Arpaio don't play into their hands by making them into martyrs. And to the person who called the cartels an "armed intrusion", they are not representing the government of Mexico any more than the 9-11 hijackers were representing the government of Saudi Arabia. The cartels should be treated like terrorists, not afforded the respect due a uniformed member of a foreign army. We're not going to war with Mexico. Mexico considers these cartels terrorists too since they've killed tens of thousands of Mexican civilians this year alone.

He is trying to have it both ways. 15000 would be more appropriate but a flaky move is typical as proofed by his response to the oil spill saturating our southern coast while he blamed Bush and BP. What a loser!

It is a step in the right direction if and only if the National Guard Units have a LEO attached. Otherwise unless there is an armed intrusion that can be counted as possible invasion or terrorist activity can they actively intervene. National posse comatas laws do apply unless he goes whole hog and declares Martial law along the southern border.
