A customer called me a honky. I never heard the word "honky "and had no idea what she was talking about. I laughed and made a honking sound. LOL that was funny. It made her angry and she complained to management. That was even funnier because she stood there in front of a bunch of people trying to explain why she called me a honky. Telling everyone how I responded and how it made her angry.

A co-worker was once called a cracker. All I could think of was saltine crackers and thought it had something to do with it being a white cracker.

Yes, I think people overreact.

Yes I do think people over react. Some people are so bent on being sensible and politically correct that its a wonder they even speak at all. Far out, if you were green and someone called you green it would be the truth wouldn't it?

In the US, political correctness states that only whites can be 'racist' and the race card is being played more and more as time goes by on every thing from politics to sports.

It's possible that they do, although difficult to work out what that ulterior motive could be. Most of it is attention-seeking, I guess. Perhaps if these racist terms did obviously bother you and your friends, you could get them banned under the descending pall of political correctness that seems necessary when dealing with anyone from another race?

I hate the pc brigade on here or anywhere, we are all entitled to an opinion on anyone and anything. The pc's want to look fair and unbiased. We are all biased and unfair at some point.

well its pathetic for pro illegals to only have the argument of "its racist" when they dont even listen to our valid arguments. it has nothing to do with race just culture and economics. theyre too blind to see that though.

We are British, we have always had an endearing knack of using insults as an informal greeting, so we don`t really care as long they smile when they say it.
I am not so sure that they have an ulterior motive, just a different comprehension of the situation.
As long as we all understand each other and afford each other kindness and respect the world will be a nice place to live in.

I cant think of any name anyone could call me that would hurt my feelings.I do not,will not allow mere words(a collection of letters I learned at age4)to dictate how I feel about myself.They are only words not high powered bullets.and as mere words they have no power over me.
I am very confidant and I know who and what I am.
A person that does not love me or that I don't love can not hold that power over me.So words are powerless unless you yourself empower them.
Words are said by people that are racist because they know the "buzz " words that have historically caused people pain.If long ago another word had been given say the "power"that the hateful N word has.Say it was
an everyday word such as "chair" Would that have been the most hated ,"why your nothing but a :chair",Sounds stupid doesn't it ,but if chair somehow hurt your feelings and you reacted to it,then the racist would keep using that word because he saw that it hurt you and that made his sick twisted mind happy.
Do you understand my point,your reaction to racists words makes the racist happy.Just tell him to go to hell ,your words cant hurt me,I know who I am.He will get tired and go back into his/her hole.

I have no idea why some people react like that but I wouldn't say it doesn't bother us at all - it certainly bothers *some* people and it's probably the one thing I've reported most people for - not that I've reported a lot or go out of my way to find it but I have done so because I think it's totally out of order, be it discrimination on race, creed, colour or religion or anything else. I don't like positive discrimination any more than negative either.

Whether such people have an ulterior motive, you'd have to ask them but I recon it's either a power or an ignorance thing personally.

The squeaking wheel gets the grease. people of lesser intelligence often times get caught up in dumb things. Some people live to have others support their adgenda. Combine the two and you have a typical minority. By the way ethnic is not the only minority exploiting a target group for their money. Women do it to men all to often in divorce proceedings.
Had to add to mine.--Just read someones response about being in a race that was once enslaved. once is the operative word, get over it. You were never a slave and I was never a master. Everyones past has some bad moments.
One of my ancestors was a slave boss in Missouri I'm not proud of it but it happened. Should I hate my Family or the man? We as a people need to live together in today and quit all the worry about yesterday. I think the future is quite bright for all americans.

Its odd how some thing like words when you break them down to their lowest form - a noise, have been one of the tools that may have helped mankind so much yet lead to so much destruction.

The Black comedian Charlie Williams who died a few weeks ago said colour don't matter laugh at yourself. We have always had jokes about the Irish, Welsh and Scottish. No one got worked up and held riots and burned effigy's. I have never been worried about people who over react to colour, religion or culture jokes until recently. Some Muslims have taken any reference to them as a reason to cause problems. Yet other Muslims I know will have a laugh at their own expense and tell jokes about non Muslims.

Firstly, why do you/anyone need to refer to people in a derogatory manner, isn't it a bit childish to lower oneself to name calling in the first place. I know some of it is simply 'trolling' for a reaction, but after a while it gets rather dull. You claim it wouldn't bother you at all, that's all good and well, but how about just a little bit of consideration for those poor weaklings (as you seem to think they are) who aren't quite as strong and tough as you.

good question if you look at it the pro team has this as their number one defense for illegal immigration even though most of America wants illegal immigration to end so when someone is actually being racist they get so excited and make a big to do over it . so yes they would have to over react to make their stance seem more right
