Please explain to me why we need immigration of any kind?

We do not owe it to anybody first off. Other countries owe it to U.S. citizens that we can visit, work or go to school there safely and under better conditions than exist in the U.S.

We are bringing in some 138,000 people monthly here, whilst losing that many jobs. These people are instant welfare cases even if they themselves get a job (consider those that they displace).

When did this become our obligation? There is nothing fundamentally wrong with any nation where we see the most immigrants except for POLITICS. Read it again. Politics are the problem with most places on earth. It is time for us to show some tough love and let these people deal with their own problems instead of importing them into t

Well we have changed a lot of things over the years - just as EVERY other country has too!

So just because we USED to allow immigration is no reason to continue it. The only reason would be if it is in the best interests of most Americans.

And that crud about native americans - GET OVER IT. Nobody is stupid enough to buy that line. We all know they are immigrants too.

When you look at just numbers there is really no reason to allow any immigration. We have limited supplies of all energy products, we don't have enough water in many cities to even let people water their lawns anymore, we have no capability to build more schools, roads, water treatment plants, landfills, etc. Our wonderful elected democrat leaders want to start a cap & trade system (which will likely triple or quadruple everyone's heating bill). And all we have to do to stop all of these issues is to stop allowing virtually all immigration. We should only allow a few of the most talented, highly educated people a year.

If we need laborers then they will line up by the thousands to come here TEMPORARILY to make some money. That is as long as the employer has a bond in place should they need medical or commit any crimes against us.

Anyone who has kids should be scared. At our current pace (without any amnesty) we will hit 600 million in about 50-60 years. Almost all due to immigration and the children of immigrants.

And once again, you have some tool bringing up the Native Americans, how sad. These chumps answer to ever qeustion concerning modern day issues is to bring up history and false facts on what happened. Lame and pathetic.

No we don't. The only reason the government hasn't put a stop to it is because those in power want to keep wages low and the poor helpless.

Illegal immigration is the problem, ILLEGAL immigration. When we imported immigrants here at the beginning of our country it was for the good of the nation. Then we implemented laws governing the immigration process. Anyone with a crack habit, a drinking problem, or just doesn't want to work can get welfare, its there to help the helpless. I'm for helping our citizens, because you never know what kind of situation one might find themselves in one day. I agree that it is just politics, and its disgusting how the politicians work at times. When we enforce the laws that we already have instead of turning a blind eye to the ones that are convenient at the time, we might turn things around.

Why does there have to be a NEED for a poor immigrant to allow them into our country? I am appalled at the horrendous treatment many people have received merely because they would rather work somewhere other than the place where they were born. No one has any problem when talented, wealthy Americans zip around the globe to earn money with their skills, so why is it that many people react with anger at the thought of poor, dark-skinned people doing the same thing? (Substitute leaky boats or worn sandals for the jet planes, of course.) The economic realities are the same: there is a demand for the services that the jet-setters can perform and there is also a demand for the work that poor immigrants can perform.

I’ve frequently heard nativists say that it isn’t true that Americans don’t want to do those jobs. Often, to make their case, they will point to a company’s ability to hire some “real Americans” to work in, say, a meat-packing plant after it’s been raided by federal agents and its illegals hauled away. In my opinion, it’s entirely irrelevant whether a company’s workers are “real Americans” or not. All people have the same rights, including the right to enter into contracts to work. Whether the worker comes from Mexico or Michigan doesn’t make any difference morally. The fact that so many people think it’s a cause for celebration when an illegal is arrested and a “real American” takes his place is an indication of an atavistic, tribal mindset.
The Italians, Greeks, Poles, and others often flocked together and continued speaking the old language, kept up their old-world religion and traditions, and many were content to have little to do with “mainstream” America. The second generation of those immigrants, however, was usually quite eager to mix in with the rest of the population and the third generation was as “American” as the descendants of the Pilgrims. Much the same thing is occurring with current immigrants, no matter where they’re from.
Government can’t succeed in stopping the influx of immigrants any more than it succeeded in stopping people from making and distributing alcoholic beverages, and when it tries to stop immigrants society suffers the same nasty effects it experienced with Prohibition, namely criminality, decreased respect for the law, and a vast black market. It’s a most useful analogy.
Instead of trying to use immigration restrictions to keep terrorists out — which probably won’t work anyway, given the resources and determination of the terrorists — the United States should rely on better intelligence work and international cooperation to identify potential terrorists. That makes sense. The enormous resources devoted to the attempt to keep out all immigrants (a group that may contain no terrorists at all) would be better devoted to efforts directed specifically at terrorism.
Workers, legal and illegal, send billions back to their home countries — money that doesn’t go to the dictator or ruling oligarchy, but rather straight to very poor people. Those remittances often constitute a large percentage of the incomes of poor families with members working elsewhere. They’re a big source of funds for improved living and economic growth. So here’s a deal for the people who worry about the cost of immigration — let foreigners work here and cut foreign aid out of the federal budget. That would be a good deal.

We don't owe it to anyone, but you do realize that part of the reason why the United States is what it is today is because of trade. Trade helps economies. Tourism helps economies. Students from other countries helps other countries do better when the students return, which means more educated populations that produce more goods and services, which means more trade opportunities.

We do not have instant welfare cases. First, in most places, illegal immigrants cannot obtain welfare, and most people here on temporary visas are not eligible for it either. Those with green cards MUST have a financial sponsor, a private citizen, willing to support the immigrant financially so the United States government doesn't have to.

I'm not even going to debate you on the job thing. I could explain complex economic figures and explain to you how things actually work, not how you think they work, but I'm too tired. Sorry.

It's not our obligation, in reply to your final paragraph, but that was covered in the first paragraph of my answer.

I actually noticed the word "politics" the first time you wrote it, so I will politely ignore your instruction to "read it again." You do realize that we do not bring in masses of people simply due to politics of a different government, right? The only case where this has a chance of happening is in the case of asylum or refugee cases, however those are hard to obtain by immigrants, if not downright impossible in most cases.

You should run for government office. Your ability to think critically and logistically will go very far and you will become an instant asset to our government. Your talking down to everyone will also help you, because obviously you are much smarter than everyone else.

I agree with the whole "taking jobs" part but you do understand that everyone hear was immigrants at one point, right? I'm just assuming that you are not a Native American, who, as far as we know, discovered this land first. Therefore, we stole their land from them and they have every right to live on hear (I'm also going to assume you mean Mexicans, and once again they were here first). I'm not really trying to argue just, well, teach I suppose.

Your little rant actually exposes just how ignorant you are on the issue. You don't need an answer to your question because in your closed-minded head you won't hear anything but views that agree with yours already. Hope you figure things out someday, although somehow I think that day may not ever come.

Hmmm...I'm sure the Native Americans would agree with you....only they would have chosen to not allow you and your ancestors in as well.

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
