hi everyone im a Canadian Citizen and im wanting to join the United States Army .
My friend thats in the military in the States says i have to get a green card to join the army but he cant tell me were to go to apply because hes in Afgahnistan but im wondering if the Army in the States will let me join even if i dont have a green card i dosent bother me if i have to go overseas i really just want to defend America.

It can take up to 10 years to get a green card.
My daughter was living in the USA with me under a TD visa and the Air Force tried very hard to recruit her as a Tech Specialist. The US Navy wanted her too and she may end up doing work with the US Army COrps of Engineering.
So there may be a way without a green card.
And I know a fair number of Canadians served in the US Army in Viet Nam.
I suggest you visit the USA and check with an Army recruiter.
Just remember you cannot be an officer. |

To obtain a green card or to obtain legal permanent status in the U.S. you will have to have a family member to file a petition for you to immigrate in the U.S. It would have to be an immediate family member, like a parent or a brother or spouse that has legal status in the U.S. There are other ways, like an employer could petition for you. In those cases the employer would petition for you as a temporary professional worker, and then the employer could file a petition for legal permanent status.
In short if you do not have any family tides to immigrate you will not be able. I salute you for wanted to be in the U.S. Armed forces, but unfortunately if you are not a U.S. Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident of the U.S. you can not enlist in the U.S. Armed forces.
