Please help me to understand why they are singing the National Anthem in Spanish?

That is very interesting.
Here in Canada we have two official languages, and the anthem is sung in both languages, English and French.
But unless Spanish has been made an official language in the US, it is not right that this be sung in Spanish.
My opinion.

The US national anthem is a beautiful song. What makes it beautiful is the emotion behind it, not the words.

If one person learns to love America better because they can understand the symbolism and strength in that song, we all win. If you can accomplish that feat by not making them translate each word out of context, then what is the harm?

We encourage all cultures to express themselves as part of a grand whole. Our culture is built up of many cultures.

Maybe you should ask the question, why do immigrants feel so proud of their country that they wish to express it in their own words and feelings? You may have been born in the US, but go back far enough and you'll find your ancestors came to North America from somewhere else.

If someone was to sing "O Canada" in Greek I would be intrigued to learn the meaning of their words, to understand how they feel about our (his/hers and mine) country. And to better relate with him.

Because they want to show you the love that they have to this country, and they want to touch the people who is not speak English yet... i know i don't like that idea much but... that seems is for a nice reason.

As far as I can tell, the timing appears to be a rallying cry or sorts for the pro-illegal alien movement. Notice that the wording is very similar, but not exactly the same. Dig up the translation somewhere. Personally, and I could be wrong, but it sounds like they are spinning it as a sort of victory song for those seeking citizenship for illegals.

I agree with you totally. If I move to Germany, illegally, do I get to sing the German national anthem in English? I don't think so.

It really isn't "THE" national anthem. It is a way for illegals to create a situation where they feel like this is their land...And it could be their land...if they just went about it the right way.

From what I can infer, Spanish Americans are doing this as a tactic to threaten our government to pass the bill to let in illegal immigrants from Mexico. If only all Americans were as united as the Spanish-speaking portion of our country is.

As there is no official language in this country, who cares what language it is sung in. Sure it was written in english, but anyone can translate it and write a version in Spanish, French, Chinese, Quechua... who cares. I think it is very flattering that a Spanish version is being made. Doesn't everyone see... they want to be AMERICAN! So what if they happen to sing the song in Spanish. Americans SHOULD speak spanish anyways. It is the most common language in this Hemisphere.

To the guy that asked if you can sing the German national anthem in English; yes, you can. Germany (like the United States) has freedom of speech, the only limit is some anti-Nazi and anti-incitement to violence laws. Germany has its own linguistic minorities many of which it recognizes under the European Union's language minority treaty.
