It seems to me that it is very easy to get into the UK. As to how many immigrant's, It seems to me that even the government don't know, as to where from I think the majority now are Eastern Europeans. But that is just my opinion. |

You aren't Gordon Brown or another member of the government are you by any chance? |

The government really has no idea at all how many legal or illegal people have entered this country in the last 10 years. It has completely lost control of our borders. So there is no way anyone will know figures or nationalities of the immigrants now residing here in the UK. |

We have not lost control of our borders, we were made to open them. In principal this was for other members of the EU but all and sundry come in. There are no accurate figures as to the numbers, even the govt was forced to admit they did not know, sad state of affairs eh? Most legal migrants now come from Eastern European countries eg Poland and Romania. If you browse the National Office for Statistics (N.O.S.) you will find some useful info there. Hope this helps. |

If you go over there to study, you can get a student visa, but cannot overstay once you are done studying. Immigration with the intent to stay is entirely a different matter, and it is not easy to stay in the UK if you are not from an EU country. If you are lucky enough to get a work permit, you can stay.
But I think people are tired of more immigrants. |

Britain has no immigration laws and we have no clue how many immigrants are in this country. And i classify anyone as a immigrant who isn't an indigenous Brit.
And to the claim that we are all immigrants that's not true. The Saxons mixed with the ancients Brits. Would you say the Mexicans are not indigenous to Mexico because they have a little Spanish blood in them? |

Have a look at the link below for some interesting and detailed statistics. Unfortunately, the figures are from the 2001 census, so they are not completely up to date - in particular, they don't include most of the Poles who have come since May 2004. They obviously also don't include people here temporarily.
Also interesting to compare with this link:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6161705.stm
which shows five and a half million Brits living permanently abroad. Migration is a two-way street!
Hope this helps. |

Are you sure you're not Gordon Brown? Because the Government are also currently "confused about immigration", have no idea how many migrants are in the country or what impact they are having on it!!!
How many are in the country? Probably Millions. Noone's sure. Depends if you are counting legals, illegals, asylum seekers, failed asylum seekers, EU migrants etc.
What countries they came from? All sorts. Mainly Eastern Europe and former Commonwealth countries.
How easy it is to get in? If you're from the EU you can just walk in, no VISA needed.
Otherwise you can apply as an asylum seeker, sneak in illegally or find a job and go through the correct channels (which can take years and is very difficult). Most choose option A or B. |

If you're confused right now we can only make it worse.
I don't think they have a copy of Immigration for Dummies online. |

You have certainly come to the wrong place to ask them type of questions if you want non-biased answers! I don't think the goverment has exact figures there has been lots of co*ck ups where immigration is concerened not to mention the illegals.
Maybe there is a Goverment website or a UK news website that you could visit and get latest statistics and the information you want! |

i think it is classed as immigration if you stay in england for more than your visa will allow you to unless you get married or something like that |

Good question! I believe there are government websites which have this info, but it is very sensitive because so many want to make political capital out of it. My suggestion is you write to your MP, they should be able to locate the correct statistics. Please post them here afterwards - I'd like to know as well |

ur question is like how many rats are in London
By the time u finish counting many would have left and new one joined.
The q is who provides them sustainance ? Govt does not give them dols. Who want cheap labor. Otherwise consumer will have to pay more or agrro produce will perish.
The immigrants are not going to line up for counting. |
