Questions for Americans? Do you believe -hypotheticaly that YOU had to pass the test and cross the border you?

I can't honestly answer your question. The reason being I would never think about having to do those things. Instead of thinking about having to go thru those efforts I would attempt to enter legally. That way I'm not being selfish. I wouldn't be putting my life at risk. I wouldn't be putting the welfare of my family(including my children)at risk. I wouldn't be putting my own welfare at risk. Quite simply it would not be worth the risk when I can do it legally.

Make your comparisons to the past all you want. The difference is there are now immigration laws in place. Back then there were not. That argument doesn't hold water.

I've lived around "latinos" in the Mission District, in San Francisco for many years.I know many, but, no matter how well we get along they all seem to have the same "problem" YOU guys have, ...they only hear what they want to hear, tune out the obvious and then shiver in their boots that ICE will come and make them go back to Mexico. This is NO WAY to enter another country. ALL countries, all over the world have border laws....I'ed hate to see you try this type of approach to enter China, Russia, or Cuba! Borders are meant for a reason....and just to IGNOR that FACT and continue to SLIP across the border, just because you have a good strong back, and alot of "mental determination", dosen't make it "all right"....It's illegal in the United States to enter our country this way, so whats going on here? I am an American thru and thru. No matter how bad the government is here it is still a great place to live and I would never think of trying to sneak across the border and do what is ILLEGAL. Maybe you are not happy here and need to go back to whatever country you came from.

Why don't you stay where you were and solve your own problems. Before you ask, most of the people that came here to start with were ducking prison and creditors. To stay would have meant certain death for some and probable death for others. You folks slipping across the border have no such problems. All your problems are solvable, if you would develop enough guts to knock heads and let those in positions of power know they can be replaced.

I can pass the citizenship test that LEGAL immigrants take every day when EARNING their right to be called Americans, so yes, I do have what it takes to be an American.

Why can't ILLEGAL immigrants pass the test? Because they're not interested in being AMERICANS and making a new life in this country- they're interested in making money to take back to their old country. They're sneaking across the border to make a few bucks, then going back when they've made enough to be considered rich there.

If I were to immigrate, I'd do it LEGALLY, obeying the laws of my new nation, learning their language, and assimilating myself into their society PERMANENTLY (rather than expecting them to change their ways to make me feel comfortable for the duration of my money-making stay), thus dispensing with the need to give up my PS3 (if I had one.)

All these law abiders seem to forget that Martin Luther King had to consistantly break laws. Eugene Debs, Big Bill Haywood and other labor leaders also found that they had to consistantly break laws. The laws are set by those who are able to profit from those laws. There is nothing natural about borders. They are man made and their purpose is to establish profit zones for the nation's wealthy elite. There other function is to keep the slaves on the plantation. The one thing that most U.S. citizens are unaware of is how difficult is to actually leave the U.S. for greener pastures. Like Canada's health care system, or Englands or Frances? Try moving to one of those countries and you'll find that there are plenty of barriers in your way. Like the Mexicans, we too are trapped on the plantation. Those with plenty of money are free to come and go as they please, but the slaves of all nations are trapped.

A good friend of mine crossed the Sonora desert to get here. She came over as a teen kind of a "girly girl" and did not realize what she was getting into..she packed all sorts of clothes, makeup, shoes etc. Long story short she was holding up the group and they made her toss all her stuff in the middle of the desert!! She said that she cried the rest of the way through. But she has long since bought everything over again, lol. It could have been a lot worse for her, pretty girls especially if they are travelling alone will often get raped by the coyotes. As for me, sure I think I could make the trip, you just have to plan for it and pack right. Lots of bottled water and protein bars. My husband did it and he said it was very very hard, basically a 3-day hike where they ran like hell during the night and slept during the day. Luckily I will never have to do it since I was born here. :o)
