Regular,Offical And Diplomatic Passports?

How are those passports differ from each other?

Phil
Regular are issued to any ordinary citizen for use in business or tourism, etc.

Official is a passport issued to someone who is doing travel as part of official business of their government. For example attending a conference on behalf of a government agency. Not all countries issue these nor for all government travel, but they are common.

Diplomatic passports are issued to persons who are accredited as diplomats and typically indicate that the individual has diplomatic immunity in some second country.

Some nations prescribe different handling for different passports, For example the US allows certain nations regular passports a visa waiver, but requires a visa for official passports because, presumably, it wants to be notified about any official travel to the US by a foreign government representative.

also at Wikipedia, see that some will have distinctive covers, for example:

Regular (blue cover)
Issuable to all citizens and non-citizen nationals. Periods of validity: for those age 16 or over, generally ten years from the date of issue; for those 15 and younger, generally five years from the date of issue.

Official (maroon cover)
Issuable to citizen-employees of the United States assigned overseas, either permanently or temporarily, and their eligible dependants, and to members of Congress who travel abroad on official business. Period of validity: generally five years from the date of issue.

Diplomatic (black cover)
Issuable to American diplomats accredited overseas and their eligible dependants, and to citizens who reside in the United States and travel abroad for diplomatic work. Period of validity: generally five years from the date of issue.

(b) Official passport . An official passport is issued to an official or employee of a government traveling abroad to carry out official duties.

(c) Diplomatic passport . A diplomatic passport is issued to a Foreign Service officer or to a person having diplomatic status or comparable status because he or she is traveling abroad to carry out diplomatic duties on behalf of the government.

Regular passports are used by every one for the purpose of proper identification, to ensure another country that the person entering their nation is a resident of the country who issued the passport and of course the obvious reasons of getting from one country to another.

I have not heard of an official passport unless they are the ones used by spies. (Fakes). Diplomatic passports however, are issued by the government to few and qualified individuals doing work for the government. The color of a diplomatic passport is different from those assigned every one else. Privileges of a diplomatic passport would allow easy entry and exit of countries with no questions whatsoever. This means that owning a diplomatic passport has cleared the individual of all security checks and is good to go, no further security checks needed. People working in embassies and high ranking government officials are given these kind of passport to facilitate speed of processing in air ports or entry and exit from countries.

Spies do not use diplomatic passports since they do covert or secret operations. Having a diplomatic passport would also blow their cover since they would stand out instead of blending in. Also, spies do not qualify for the diplomatic kind of passports. They might not be too high up the political ladder to qualify. Do you think they do ?
