I'm an Australian citizen, but my boyfriend is from Hong Kong. He's thinking of applying for a 12-month working holiday visa and live with me for 12 months before applying for the spouse visa. I'm currently a full-time university student (and will continue studying for the next 2 years as part of a 4-year degree) and have only been working part-time during over the summer holidays in casual jobs... If I sponsor him, is the Department of Immigration likely to reject his application on the basis of my financial status? Do I have to be working full-time to have sufficient income to "sponsor" him financially? If this is the case, would it be better to wait until I finish my degree and find full-time work before we even consider his application for a spouse visa?

if his getting a 12 month working visa to work he should be fine for you to sponsor him.
i wasnt working a sponsored my partner who was on a student visa, then finishes studies and applied on spouse visa.
however i think you should wait cause where is he going to work?
finance is the big issue here |
