Should I move to Canada, England, or France?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I move to Canada, England, or France?

I recently watched Michael Moore's "Sicko" and I'm appalled. My dad has diabetes, my mom needs knee surgery, and none of us have health insurance. My dad is paying too much for his insulin and the doctors won't even look at my mom.
Is the healthcare really free in these other countries? What about college?

Unless you speak French (like a native) I would hesitate to go to France. I'm British, and there is a huge cultural and linguistic gap between the French and the rest of the world. Oh, but they are very liberal (unless you are a political refugee).

Canada does not have the same welfare/taxation system as GB - it's more to do with private insurance. So it's not free at the point of use, as it is in GB.

Oh, England is only one country within the United Kingdom. The rest of us come from Scotland (that's me), Wales and the north of Ireland. The Republic of Ireland is a law unto itself and not doing very well, financially.

Anyway, the United Kingdom used to have an enviable health care system but health care in the United Kingdom has to be paid for by tax. When the National Health Service fails to provide (as it does, because it is overstretched and under-funded) people who work elect to pay for private health care. They are already obliged to pay for the NHS through taxation, but when it fails to deliver the goods, they go private.

You would have to have a compelling reason to move to the United Kingdom - and free health care is a thing of the past. I don't know about college - we were too poor to think about such luxuries.

Lots of prayer support for you parents, and yourself.

If you can find a job, I'd go to France. If not, Canada is a good alternative. England is too expensive and not worth it.....Another good country is Spain.

not free because you pay taxes, but everyone gets health insurance.

France currently is ranked #1 in the world on health

As others have said, it is not free healthcare and we do pay higher taxes. But is is pretty good healthcare and and most industrialized nations do manage to provide care to most of their citizens for less than the US system.

However I am not sure how realistic your plan to move is. I think all of those countries screen potential immigrants for health.

I live in England and still pay for private health insurance because good luck trying to get an operation in time on the NHS. Or god forbid you have cancer and want to get treatments that are available in most of the rest of the world, but the NHS says no because they are too expensive.

And you can't just decide to move to England, France or Canada. Someone in your family has to find a company to sponsor them for a work visa, then the rest of the family needs to apply as dependants. And you usually have to live there and pay taxes a certain amount of time before you can start getting health care

Nothing is free. Americans could also have a national health care system, but nobody wants to talk about the reality of raising taxes to pay for it. If you want to pay 40-60% income tax like many countries in Europe, then you can have "free" healthcare

You need a visa to move, and if you are considered to be a burden on welfare in the new country, they will most likely deny you. Also, you probably have to be a citizen of those countries to get good welfare. They won't just give welfare to anyone.

Maybe they should have paid or saved up for managed health care like everyone else. Most poor people can get health care in most states.

If you think anything in that movie is true, then you deserve to be culled from the gene pool.

NOTHING is free.

The people in those countries pay VERY HIGH taxes to cover their "free" care. In addition, England was just in the news for deciding NOT to give care to breast cancer and stomach cancer victims.... because the cutting-edge medicine was TOO EXPENSIVE.

SO.... for all their "free" care.... they've given up any hope of cutting-edge care to people who don't know you, and have thrusted you into a position where you have NO CHOICE... you can't even pay for it yourself!!!

"Free"?..... but not "freedom"!

If you want to be a socialist you need to be prepared to get less than you give. Socialist systems all ultimately collapse because nearly everyone is looking for "free" things.

Moore is a typical neo-Marxist, fairy tale world propagandist. None of those have much understanding of real-world economics. They have the delusion that there is some Santa Clause like entity that pays for everything. In reality you pay for it and, in socialists systems, you help pay for people who can't. It all comes out of your paycheck in taxes.

I wouldn't depend on Michael Moore to give you all the facts. Besides, if he really strongly believed health care was better in these other countries. Then why does he still live in the US? It's not like he can't afford to move.

I live in Canada and WISH I had access to US healthcare...it really it the best in the world. And if you're poor, you can still get help at the ER or thru medicaid
