Should Yahoo just shut down the "immigration" category?

Yes, that is one of those "go with the flow" categories. You must be for not only immigration, but "illegal immigration" which I believe is the more appropriate category title.

Congress.. the Democratic Party leadership under the tutalege of Hillary Clinton, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL), as well as all the House leadership are very actively shoving the illegal aliens down our throats while they call us racist, thugs, and bigots on the side. At least some of the Republicans are doing the same. Senator Jeff Session has been a friend of ours from the beginning and done well in his efforts and amoung many, is the one who understands we have a law to enforce and that this is not a popularity contest for La Raza at this point.

I want a vote on the issue of illegal aliens and it would be well worth the cost.

We need a national ballot iniative or we are going to get whanged by the big money lobby groups who are actively tapping at the Congresspersons doors in the middle of the night saying... I need to talk to you about this donation.

Congress needs to stop the bull, and enforce the law as it stands, and wait until we can vote on the new law. Yahoo Immigration needs to let the fights continue. Were I them, I would ask for far more references than they have unless it is clearly the personal opinion of the person posting.

I would like to answer the question but I fear that I will be flagged and in violation of term of srevice since my oppinion is that we need to overthrow the government and deport all who have entered illegaly.

I agree that they need to get new workers who are not bias, some of these answers are ridiculously deleted. Many accounts are targeted by certain people on here, especially when they do not like how outspoken some people are on the subject. Many questions on this forum are opinions, how is there a right or wrong answer. how can one be violated for the way they think. Many are violated because they say it insults some. If I violated all that have insulted me on here, the violations would be staggering. I think it is an insult to me and this country when illegals get on here and boast about breaking our laws. And then their are the ones who aid and abet, who publicly say they hire illegals over American workers etc... are these not insulting remarks to all American citizens. Answers should stop the violations for everyone and allow people complete freedom of speech. If no one likes what they read, do not read anymore, how hard is that.

Two things. First off, talking about 'illegal immigrants' doesn't make it a de facto immigration question. Look at all the other contributions and they're about people looking for information on specific visas, eligibility etc etc.

Illegal immigration is a wider political issue and belongs in the Politics section, period.

The Immigration section should not be closed down, but all and any posts on illegal immigration should be moved to the Politics section. That would leave this section free for people with genuine personal enquiries about specific issues free to browse in a saner, less argumentative atmosphere. As it stands, it's an uneasy mix in here.

The fact of the matter is that a small hub of anti-illegals posters got very literal and thought "Illegal immigration - I know the immigration section'. Wrong. It's a political issue. The wallhuggers are very loath to move on however as because this is a less populated section, their views represent a greater proportion of the posters. In the general Politics section their more extreme and intemperate views would be outnumbered, ridiculed and they know it.

The second thing is that it's not just those who are vehemently anti-illegals who get their questions - or answers - deleted. I've had a fair few myself. Unfortunately, of late, it has degenerated into a 'report abuse' pÃssing contest on both sides.

There's no need to shut down the immigration category. But I'd like to see mods move anything and everything not directly related to visa info etc moved into the politics section. Chances are there will be a lot less censorship there as such heat in debate is expected. But I'm not convinced the YA Immigration wallhuggers are ready to leave their comfort zone here.

Yahoo Answers (YA) is a public forum to answer hard and tough questions. The immigration category should stay because how would we know on how wrong illegal immigration really is. The people who answer on the negative affects of illegal immigration based it on hard facts and legitimate laws. Where as the people who answer the positive affects of illegal immigration base it on virtually nothing - they just say it is okay or the illegal immigrants or looking for a better way of life when it was pointed out several times that they should come through legal means.

The YA staff needs to change its personnel and replace them with people who fair to both sides. They always delete the people who are very vocal in anti-illegal immigration but they keep the ones who are promoting illegal immigration. The YA staff has to understand that they are not the voice of America nor do they determine what is right for America.

And in case you do not know, illegal immigration is AGAINST THE LAW according to US Code 8. No non-US Citizen has the right to enter the United States without permission from the federal government.

You can ask whatever you like. They only shoot down the people that can't ask the questions without trolling. Questions phrased rationally stay up. I understand that the US extreme right wing (who think this is all about them, instead of the global board that it should be) have trouble with that, but I'm confident they can learn if they try their very bestest. :)
