Hispanic immigrants already are required to have basic English skills before they can receive citizenship. During the citizenship testing process, they have to read a sentence aloud in English. |

The ones who don't speak english aren't here legally. |

This is a sore subject for myself. Im not a racist AT ALL but I think if you want to live her in America you should definately be able to speak the language. Try going over to Mexico and not being able to speak Spanish, do you think they are going to provide an Interpreter for us?? Try flying the American flag over there... what do you think will happen?? |

Stop providing services and signs in Spanish which will make the individual learn English. Otherwise, the individual has no incentive to learn the language. |

Yes.
If ya would rather speak Spanish then go live in Mexico please.
This is America we speak English not Spanish.
My French-Canadian Great-Great Grandmother learned to speak English. |

no. if an immigrant (not necessarily just hispanic, but from anywhere) wants to become a citizen, they should not be required to speak English. It would destroy their cultural identity. |

what a racist remark, the one about the cochroaches.
should they speak english before becoming a citizen? for their own sake they do. other wise they are going to be left behind in everything.
but this is a free country they can speak what ever they want.
not giving them a citizenship?
why not? because you dont like them? |
|

Lisa

Why not? You're a citizen and you obviously have no command of the English language... |

I dont think it is nice to compare anyone to cochroaches! But in order to become a citizen everyone is required to speak at least some English to pass the test. You do not need to speak English to be a permanent resident. In my opinion the citizenship test is a little too hard. I doubt you would pass it. |

No. I don't think that should be necessary. I believe that Spanish speaking immigrants should desire to learn English. I don't like the last couple of questions you asked. Those are the types of questions that gives Americans, especially "White" Americans a bad name. |

yes i think all foreign people should learn the english language it is inportant to know..although the english language is the hardest it is important for them for communication and for us also. we all need to be able to understand each other! |

Any immigrant to the U.S. must speak English before receiving the American citizenship. That is what the law says. But the comparison with insects is truly ridiculous - they are people trying to find a better place to live, just like most of the American ancestors when they reached America for the first time. |
