It cost thousands per year just to treat 1 case. one person can infect countless others without even knowing. so yes we should test all migrants and everyone should be screened in the same way we screen woman for brest cancer on a regular basis too. |

Immigrants to the US all take a comprehensive medical exam that includes an HIV test. Have done for years. Being HIV positive is not an automatic bar to immigration. |

Why oh why do we have to be so politically correct all the time in the UK. I am not advocating the violation of human rights here but surely if HIV is a transmittable disease surely it makes sense that people who come here from countries where HIV is rife should'nt they be tested not only for their own sakes but for the well being of others.

although that sounds like a good idea it is ethically wrong, yes as a nation we could benefit from this but in testing immigrants you would have to test all british nationals aswell which is against our freedom as people, the only time i could see it as been ethically the right thing to do is if they are coming here to work as doctors /nurses/dentists/midwives i think it would be understandable to be tested then if they came from a high risk area only or if their family members are known to have the disease, but not immigrants from all over the world...but i think it treads a very thin line between using it as a protective measure or using it as a way to stop immigration, it would also cause hatred to every immigrant as us common people of england would no doubt assume all immigrants must be hiv+...... |
