i have been here for 21 years i have two kids born here recently been charge for grandlarcening in 2009 but i need to renew my green card in 2010 i ll be in probation by the time that i need renew my green card do i need a lawyer before i renew my green card or should just wait after my probation is over to renew my green card but then it will be too late if i wait five years later i was not sentence to deportation

You won't need an attorney to renew the card, but like the other guy said, your file will be forwarded for an investigation. If I were you I'd sure consult with an immigration attorney NOW, so that you know what's coming and are prepared for it. There's a good chance they could process you for removal.

I would have had a lawyer cut a better deal on the larceny. But as it is, I'd consult an immigration lawyer right away. |

No. You can renew your green card. Because you are already a Lawful Permanent Residence (I am assuming) you can still get your card. Any criminal record that comes up when your I-90 application is adjudicated will be known but there is a new policy out that it is to be approved anyway and your file will be forwarded on to check the criminal background information. You'll still get your card though. Is it you or your kids that have been charged with grand larceny? If it's your kids, you won't have to worry. |
