I'm only 17, but i've always been told to not give that away, at least untill AFTER i get the job. But i don't want to hurt my chances at the job because i leave it blank, should i fill it in?
What do you think?

Yes, they have to check that you are legally able to work. There should be a statement on the application that states they have to keep it confidenial. |

No one should be asking for your SS# before you get the job. I would respectfully decline. Their forms are out of date. |

I wouldnt....some unscrupulous employers have been known to issue 1099's for people who never worked for them,making you responsible to pay taxes on earnings you never collected |

I was told NEVER to give it out, people might steal it and use it. What kind of jobs are you appling for? Do not put it down. |

just write on the application form - available at the interview
that way your SSN is not swinging in the breeze on a paper that anyone can read.
so if you get the interview you only need to show the card to one person,
if you dont get the interview then they dont get your personal details for free.
And if they do need to do a credit check - make sure it is a GOR - genuine occupational requirement - such as a retail or bank job or a job involving handling money. Any office or factory job does not require a credit check |

Some jobs require a credit check.
I would not give it on a random application. If you get further along in the employment process, then ya, maybe...but for now...no. |

You're very smart to question this. Yes, you can indicate that you will provide it if you are hired.
However, they may need it for a background and/or credit check. In that case, you need to provide it. |
