yes, I think they should, and that people need to start treating them with respect. I suggest that the US government give them a permanent residency. Those that have commited serious crimes should be deported. Those that choose to follow the Senate's proposed bill should be given citizenship as long as they pass the test. But this is true for all immigrants from any country.

YES, IF: they learn English, register and apply for citizenship. Plus get a S.S. no. and have income tax withheld from their pay. In other words... live like an american if they want to be in america.

Theoretically no, but it is impossible to round up and send 11 or 12 million back. That being the case there must be a systematic way to screen all of them, allowing some to stay based on certain criteria. For example, they must have a job, they must be willing to learn English, they must have no criminal record, etc...

NO This country has enough problems just trying to support it's legal citizens. There isn't enough health care for everyone, their aren't enough jobs for everyone, there isn't enough gas for everyone, and schools are overcrowded as it is. ILLEGAL immigrants are a BURDEN on the system. Whoever says 'blah blah this country was settled by immigrants we all come from immigrants unless we are native American' they don't have all the facts straight. They think this battle is over immigration, that the citizens of the united states don't want any immigrants here and that just isn't true we want immigrants to go through the proper channels so that they are accounted for, and so that they pay taxes to help support the country they are living in.

I would like to say that illegal immigrants (no matter where they are from) should have to leave this country!

I would also like to point out that I don't think there is currently a good way to push them out! There are a lot of factors to take into consideration.

Just a thought.... I am curious of how a unified currency for north America would help our immigration problem...

yes, some do have children born here. some are hard workers.
Ones that have committed major crimes where some one has been physically hurt should go back, but this is meant for any illegal from any country.

I don't think so, because if we give them amnesty again (like we did in the 80s) others will see that no matter what, as long as they get in, they'll eventually be allowed to stay legally. We need to set a precedent that you are not welcome here illegally and there are no benefits for doing it that way.

I believe that who is ALREADY over here should at least have the chance to stay and "apply" for citizenship. Those who aren't over here should be able to everything the "right" way and also have a clearer and free-er mind once crossed over.
So ya....if you're here you should stay....

Why only Mexicans? I'm concerned with total numbers. If we got rid of the undesirables and plugged the leak in the border, I'd let the rest stay. However, I would not ALSO start a guest worker program that more than doubles immigration going forward.

I think the reason you see so much anger on this issue is that people's lives are truly adversely affected by the rate of people who came in illegally, exceeding our immigration quotas, already. I think we have to figure out how to build enough schools etc. to take care of those already here before we double the future rate of immigration, if we keep the screened illegals. Otherwise we just can't support it.

No, the point of this whole debate is that americans don't want their cities flooded with illegal immigrants from mexico and points south. I'm not saying mexicans don't have redeeming qualities, far from it, but they're not american, and bush and company are trying to fudge this one past the american public, and people are rightly not buying off on it. We don't need em, don't want em, and the mexican flag in the street thing is an insult, and they know it, and it's on purpose. Plenty of 'hard working americans' out there, George. Always have been. Too bad you and Vincente didn't see it, or don't care etc..

I think all Mexicans and all individuals should be allowed in our country whether they r legal or not legal. God made each and everyone of us and he made us equal.
