Yes, without a doubt! You can't have a cohesive nation when you can't understand each other! Not only that, but you need to be able to speak and write adequate English to serve on a jury. It is called respecting ones country. If you don't have that kind of respect then you shouldn't become a citizen, PERIOD! |

Totally! Not just the language but also the history and culture. Especially the culture! If they get the answers right then they have no excuses then for crying persicution because they will know what we are like before we grant them citizenship. If they get them wrong then - bye bye! |

yes. i work in a shop that some immigrants use, they come in with their shopping list wrote on a piece of paper because they cannot speak English but they sure can count as they check their change to the penny before they leave the shop! |

Any immigrant who moves to this country should be compelled to have some knowledge of English and be prepared to learn it as soon as they get here. They should also have a skill that is required here and not be able to claim benefits until they have paid into the system. |

Yes from the country they live in prior to moving to the uk.And tested as soon as they arrive failure means go home try again later.No exceptions. |

YES. It is so aggravating to try and do something and the person you're talking to can't understand what you're saying and when they talk you can barely understand what they're saying. They should be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend English. Americans will fail thier own children in school if they can't speak, read, write, and comprehend English. I wouldn't go live in a country and not know the language. If i didnt know by the time i got there, i'd make it a goal to learn immediatly. |

such test does exist. the british embassies in different countries take the test before issuing visas. if you don't pass the test you dont get a visa. the situation is different for refugees tho. theres no test for them! |

if you want to become a citizen of a country that doesn't speak English you must learn to speak the language before you are granted citizenship. This is as far as I'm aware is the system for all countries. |

other countries that speak multiple languages are divided in many ways. I think you should have to speak English to live here.
That is one of the things that makes us united as a country. Speaking many different languages alienates people and divides our country. |

if somebody going to foreign country permanently, I think it's the right thing to do... By this way you also can eliminate people who really deserves to be there... i mean there are many people going to foreign countries and not knowing a word...and also many people who wants to go and speaks the language but can't go coz there are already many people there. If you wanna join to a different community at least you have to try to learn their language...there are also lots of British people in my country who takes my language's lessons... i mean if you want something at least try to learn the language... unless it's just a laziness |

yes. immigrants should definitely be able to pass an english test. and not just the basics like cat and dog. but it should be more advanced. they are in america. we shouldnt have to scream and yell in order to get the message across. every american citizen should be able to speak english fluently. and about "mathbiomajor", whats wrong with you?! we live in america! they should do the work to get in. its called respect. i understand that not every government is like the u.s. and that freedom is not handed out to them so freely, but it shouldnt be so hard to take their order or ask them what hurts when their injured. and we do teach foreign classes. its called world history. |

Personally I believe that was already done and all part of obtaining citizenship unless you were eldery or could prove that you had some other type of mental disablity that prevented you from learning the language. |

Yes they should - or they should be held in 'camps' until they do know it AND other cultural things about our blessed country that are ours by right and birthright...When in Rome Do As The Romans Do!
This is the problem...they come here and know nothing of the language, culture, customs or anything. This makes them splinter into little groups with others like them. They don't integrate because of the language barrier and this makes us resent them and they resent us.
