Should kids of illegal aliens who are here thru no fault of their own qualify for in-state college tuition?

Illegal is illegal. The children may not have had a choice, but wouldn't it be better to teach those kids that there are consequences to breaking the LAW, and gently send them (and mommy and daddy) back to the parents' original country? This would deter a LOT of the incentives, plus it might teach those kids a little bit about respect, something they obviously won't ever learn from their criminal parents. Besides, how do YOU feel about working 5 months a year just to pay your taxes, while 75% of that money goes to support those "children." I have a sob story for you if you are so inclined ...

Just because those folks evaded the law for many years, they are not entitled to benefit from their crime. Futher, their parents are their legal guardians, and are responsiable for the crime they committed. Their parents committed a crime in their childs name.

To everyone.. there is not any way in the world those folks could be here without using a fake identification. None. That is a felony offense. And if they do have one, there is nothing in the world to stop them from having many I.D.'s, and some very decidedly do. and when they do have multipul identifications, they may well have tapped into multipul social services accounts in more than one state.

We will not know what is happening in this process until we have the real I.D. on line and working. States are actively trying to stop that, and I hope they get burned trying to stop it. But one way or another, I, personally, want the laws enforced, and the criminals in our country that wilfully broke the law... punished. And I want Mexico out of our national affairs in a very serious way.

No. It's not the fault of the citizens of the US either. It's their PARENTS fault. Paying for their own responsibility and that of their parents. They don't belong in our public schools at all.They shouldn't even be taking spots in our public institutions that should be filled by citizens of this country.

Illegal is Illegal! If the family came into the United States illegally then no matter how many days, months or years they have been in our country they are taking our U.S. citizen taxpayer employment, schools, social welfare and hospital services illegally. Over 20 million illegals are not what America needs. Their own country should provide what they come to our soil for. Why doesn't the U.S. help those countries provide for their own so they will have no need to come here against our laws of immigration.

I don't think that being born here of illegal immigrants should automatically qualify one for citizenship. in many other countries the minor children of illegals are just as illegal as their parents. when they reach 18 (if this is the minimum age) they can apply for citizenship like every one else.

No, kids of illegal aliens should not be able to qualify for in-state college tuition. They are also illegal. Maybe it's not because of something they did, but they need to understand the consequences of their parents' actions. I'm not saying that we should send them back. I'm just saying that they should be required to go through the process of becoming legal that their parents refused to do. If kids of illegals want to become citizens, they should be able to. But they should not be rewarded for their parents' crime.

Kids of the upper middle class and the wealthy parents who are citizens do not qualify for these tution programs. Kids of non-citizens should not qualify.

The children of illegal aliens upon reaching the age of 18, are old enough to know that they need to apply for citizenship.

I agree with that. It's not like the feds are going to deport them anytime soon, so might as well put them through college so they can do something productive while they're here.

Children of illegals should receive NO benefits of any kind simply by being born here. They need to go back to their parents homeland along with the parents.

No they should not. Anything we do that incentivizes this illegal behavior will just encourage it. Any parent would risk something that incentivizes their children. But if their children don't benefit perhaps they'll be less likely to commit the crime.

The children of our servicemen and women don't get in state tution when they are transferred from base to base and haven't been in a state long enough to qualify for residency. That is a travesty in my opinion.

i think if they haven't been in trouble with the law they should be able to get a student visa to finish their studies, then have a chance at getting legal status as the wouldn't be a burden to the US after being in college.i feel for those who are now paying for their parents mistakes.and as for our own kids they have chances at numerous scholarships and grants if they apply themselves in school.our kids simply don't care anymore.they think in the here and now instead of their future.

I'm sure I will get plenty of boos for this one, but what kind of people have we become when we have no compassion for others? I am not sure if they should qualify for in state tuition immediately, but I do believe there should be a way they could become citizens especially if they were born here.

My other issue is this name calling of illegals. I lived in SW Texas for a while and met and worked with quite a few illegals. I have to tell you, you who think they are lazy are misinformed. I have watched them work sun up to sun down in blazing hot weather in the fields for so little money. I would like to see any of you who made the judgmental comments work your butts off like these people do. Most of them are trying to make a better life for their children...just like you are if you have children.

The other thing I think Americans forget is that your ancestors came here ...pretty much the same way...illegally! They came and stole things they had no right to (which is pretty much what you accuse them of). Maybe you all should walk in their shoes before you judge them so harshly.

By the way, how many of the nasty posts have been by so called christians? I am not, and I have more compassion than you have ever thought of!
