Yes, they are violating the law and should be held accountable just as employers are, their property should be confiscated and the money used to deport the illegals they rented to. They should receive jail time along with it. Why are aiding and abetting laws not being enforced! Is this not encouraging them to reside here.

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.

No .Why do you think they come to this country .For a better life have you ever watched programmes about what some people have to suffer especially the women in a lot of countrys .People want to be able to enjoy their lifes and live safely and have a good futuer for their children .And if the landlord is getting his rent money it sholdnt be a problem who is paying it aslong as it is getting paied .

Senators Durbin and Reid refuse to do the right thing by the American People for their own reasons. They refuse to allow such a bill to reach the floor of the Senate. That a absolutely nailing an employer who hires illegal aliens.

E-Verify works for landlords as well as employers. Harry Reid, the leader of the Senate, said it did not. Well.. if someone moved and didn't notify the folks who update E.Verify, the addresses were off, and the E Verify came back with a negative. I don't know about you guys.. but fixing that up to you and I and all we do is notify some one.

No more bull... get the E Verify in place for landlords and for employers. BUT... IN ADDITION... we need that system in place for our utilities. The illegal aliens are heading north and back to Mexico, and they are simply walking out on their bills. It is going to cost a $1,000 deposit to open utility services if we don't stop that hemorrhage.

Unless of course... Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid will pay for it out of their pockets? Now that would be wonderful.

No, because that would mean they would start evicting people just because they're immigration status is in limbo. The US is a nation of immigratns. All politicians recognize the need for comprehensive immigration reform but that means giving these people rights, not deporting them. Undocumented workers comprise 20% of our work force, and are paying billions in payroll taxes each year. This notion that we should 'deport em all' is brutally inhumane, and would crush our economy. it's a fake enemy, the right wing would like you to hate, so they can keep you on their side, same as the abortion issue, the gay rights issue, the gun control issue, and other fringe issues that in your gut sound right, but when you examine the facts make no sense at all. Like any good con man they hook you with bait, and draw you into their scam. The Republican Free Market philosophy is a scam, really they just want to steal your money. They do this by changing laws in favor of the greedy corporations that fund their campaigns and their talk radio programs. Corporations like Exxon, Enron, Phillip Morris, Big Health, etc. You are supporting the very people that are ruining your life and you don't know it.

Absolutely! One town nearby actually does that and since this has occurred there are less crimes, less domestic disturbances, less calls for people disturbing the peace, etc. The apartments are kept up and not such an eyesore.

oh - just one problem - the landlords will start carrying out stringent nationality checks and there will be a heavy cost for the paperwork and insurances. the landlord will not be prepared to pay this so it will be charged to the tenant, so rents will go up generally, so low paid workers will need more cash to pay the increased rent and eventually this chain will lead to higher prices in ( for instance ) fast food stores, supermarkets - anywhere the low paid work.

No. The landlord are not permitted to enforce immigration law and check prospective tenants immigration status. They cannot be penalized for something they are not able to do.

they should not be penalized but,a certain law should b passed where it should become a must to verify and rent out .to know if they r illegals...where the landlords will be answerable to the govt..

NO! and who are they going to penalize now! the Mayors of every city for allowing them to drive on their roads?

After the immigration raids started, especially in Arizona, many apartments remain vacant and many landlords are losing millions because of this. I don't think Chad wants to rent where the majority of people are brown....so this is a bad bad idea.
