Don't get me started.......................no they shouldn't........the government spend so much time trying to look after everyone who comes into the country and forget the people that are already live here and are paying for all of their generosity....no wonder there are racial tensions in some parts of the country and why 1 in 3 of all people retiring are thinking of living abroad, taking their money to spend in another country and not here making us even poorer. |

no should not be allowed in unless they can support themselves |

Britain made their wealth by invading and colonizing other countries against their will, so without that you will not make the money in the first place, this is time for you to work so that those people should enjoy. |

We should be open to helping those in genuine danger, but anyone who ends up here should endeavour to work and pay tax. I think we are probably far too lenient, or our system is too flawed, and some people are coming here and basically sponging and that is not on. |

In a word - NO. Why should we have to pay for them anyway? If they come over here they should be means tested - if they don't have a job, a skill or enough money to live on for the rest of their life they shouldn't be granted entry.
They should also be able to speak FLUENT english and fall in line with our religions and ways of life rather than demanding planning applications to build their own mosques etc. If a british person wanted to emigrate to another country they are expected to speak the language and conform to that country's way of life.
This happens in other countries such as Australia, Canada and Jersey so why can't the UK do the same? |

The system should be .......if you contribute, then you are entitled to benefit............how simple is that. We would all like to go to other countries & immediatley take up any benefits that are available, but I dont know anywhere that allows it apart from good old soft touch UK. We have been too condescending for too long to the point now where we mainly moan but accept it as a fact of life..........there needs to be something done & soon..........our systems of healthcare & social security benefits etc are spiralling into oblivion due to all those claiming whilst not entitled to ....and that includes our own people who claim benefits whilst working etc. If we all played the game & used the benefits for legitimate reasons & the benefits were not more than an average wage in some cases there wouldnt be so many keen to take them up |

we should indeed have tighter immigration laws like Australia. if they want to live here then they should prove that they can be able to support themselves and/or their families. its not racism to want to restrict the number of people coming over, the country can only provide so much monetary relief before it becomes too overstretched.
another unfortunate side affect is that the BNP, the workings man's very own Nazi party, is using this to their advantage in order to gain voters. the scary thing is that in some areas they have been succesfull! and dont even get me started on Robert Kilroy Silk, the nasty, mean minded little bigot! |

Like they have in australia, they should prove they have a job to go to, have money to support themselves etc. I hear things that immigrnats age given free mobile phones, driving lessons, cars paid for..so they can get to work...when i was unemployed for a shortwhile i got nothing!! Now im paying for these people...sooooooooooo frustrating. I resent these people but its the govmn fault, they are just to scared incase its sen as discrimination by someone, somewhere. |

They should only be allowed in if they already have a good work record and we need skills in that area. |

No! There are too many immigrants coming to this country and using up vital resources. If the government dont put a stop to it soon we are going to be over run. The NHS cannot cope as it is and that is what attracts alot of immigrants free health care and benefits. They are currently queing up in their thousands in Romania etc for when they become part of the EU so they can immigrate to UK. I am not saying that immigrants cant come here but in the last few years hundreds of thousands of immigrants have came to the UK. If they are going to work etc then fine but not to claim benefit. Plus where is everyone going to live? It has been known in the past for immigrants to jump to the top of housing lists when UK citizens have been on waiting lists for years. Im sorry but the government needs to put better controls into place on the immigration system. |

No!!!!!, its bad enough that they live on benefits that we pay for, but to add insult to injury, the EE invasion not only can work here, but get child benefits for thier kids back home, it beggars belief.... |

No No NO.
Why should they. Our goverment doesn't look after our people like they do illegal imirgrants. I think it's disgusting that they can be handed a house, money etc etc till it's coming out of there ears.
send them back |

Is that a National Front meeting? Sorry for interrupting if it is...
Overall, immigrants pay more taxes than they get benefits, and that's the case in most developped countries.
These are the hard facts, now you can have moral issues about a mixed society, but that's a very different matter.
By the way, I'm kind of against immigration when it's a question of survival, I wish people didn't have this only solution to make their lifes better and could have ways to develop their own countries. So raise international aid and make international trade fair! |

No they shouldnt, unless they are doing somthing for our country! but the government should be trying to help our own people out before letting other people from other countries have out jobs.
i work for an airline and i see many things that infuriate me! like people who have british passports but cant speak english! i now actually tell them that they dont have the right for a british passport if they can speak our language!
also we used to have a bloke that worked for us who was polish and he was saying that at the end of every tax year he goes back to poland and claims his taxes back! he shouldnt be able to live in this country and have our free nhs etc if he's then going to get his goverment to get the money back from out government! he nows doesnt work for us as people grassed him up to the tax office! what a shame! |

It depends on each individual's situation.
However, I do feel strongly that the UK needs to tighten up their belt with regards to who they allow into the country. Why don't we fingerprint people like they do in the US? Why don't we check their crudentials and any criminal records? How often do we get immigrants who have committed a crime and their whole history comes out... after having a detrimental, sometimes, devastating, effect. We should not even let them pass the gates at the airport and send them straight home.
Some of these immigrants come in and become illegal workers, run illegal (and often dangerous) businesses, or even just become a threat to society via their actions.... I am all for helping people who need our help to become part of the UK community, however, threat to this by people who are here to abuse the system and bring the country's good, humane and ethical ethos shoud be booted out - we're obviously not good enough for them to want to be proud of being part of this country. |

it appears only a few people who have posted know the facts. This country's infrastructure would fall apart without immigrants. no nhs, no construction, net deficit.....please how much tax do you pay???!!!!it barely pays for the resources you take up!

Yes ..only until and up to they get a job.nothing wrong with that.a little help for future investment i go along with that..just remember if we stay as we are .. in 10 to 15 years from now our work force will be practically none extinct..there will be record high retired pensioners ..who will contribute taxes to look after them and every thing else ..a few lazy sods might be happy with a state handouts..but that is nothing compared to what we are gaining |
