Should we give money/aid to the illegal immigrates who lost their homes to the Fires?

Most cant speak english...but I digress
Sorry, I say no. Those funds are for tax paying legal Americans... Additional Details 1) No I wouldn’t want illegals helping me
2) No, I wouldn’t want them helping me to rebuild. This is one of the reasons why our economy is so bad. Illegals working in the construction field. They bring down the average construction worker salary. Ask any American construction worker and they will tell you they have lost out on many jobs because illegals will do the same job for up to $7 less than their average hourly wage.
3) They are illegals and many are afraid to seek help/aid because they are afraid of being deported. Many of them can’t even speak English so they are really doomed.
4) You need learn your facts. Watch BBC news, educate yourself and then come back her and edit your answer.

No way. If you aren't putting money into the system with taxes then you shouldn't get money out for any assistance. |

LOL.... No.
They are illegal and not supposed to be here.
Concentrate on all the legal citizens of this great land and ignore anything to do with the illegals. |

No, why should they gain help when they are illegal? This country is becoming a soft touch. Next we will be handing out green cards and US citizenship to them.
The only help they should get is to be removed from the country, they are ILLEGAL! They have no rights to be here. |

NO. NO. NO. They're not even supposed to be here in the first place. If we give them aid to rebuild, they'll probably come out better post disaster then they did before the fire.
Jeez, I didn't even think of that impact before you brought it up. I totally agree with Diane D.--the gov't already gives them free rides back to their countries. American tax payers already pay for their schooling, their children born on US soil (who are NOT good reasons for them to stay in the US), their health care, public housing.
I'm proud that I live in the US where our country has so many basics to provide to the masses but I think that our homefront, which includes our CITIZENS have been neglected for so long. In the news we hear about a war being fought in a foreign country (God bless the US troops!!!) , the illegal alien issues here, but news of the home front is pointingly absent from the news.
To recap, I say NO!!! |

No Way! Unfortunately, we have to pay to get them back over the border were they belong, but in no way should we pay to rebuild homes for illegal immigrants to continue their illegal lives in America. |

Lets see......build them a new home or give them a one way ticket to their home? Tax payers money footing the bill either way......I'm for the one way ticket home. Costs more to keep them. Legally....not to mention fiscally.....it's a better move. |

We should provide emergency humanitarian aid, as we would for anyone on this earth. That is the American way. It is the civilized way. Beyond that, we absolutely must not provide anything which will encourage them to stay. Those funds should be strictly reserved for taxpayers.
Of course, if they have a valid insurance contract that cannot be voided on the grounds of their illegal status, it should be honored. If we wish to be a nation of laws, we should abide by them if we wish others to do the same. |

No.
Or let's put it this way, this is a tax thing. Are they paying taxes? Not claiming more deductions than they are entitled to and 'credits'?
If so...I feel a little differently. This is a taxpayer funded benefit. |

NO!
Let Mexico take care of Mexican Nationals. Lets you and I help our fellow citizens. |

While I feel bad for them, no. There are thousands of homeless AMERICANS that should be helped first.
They should rebuild in their home country, WHERE THEY BELONG! It's not California's fault that they lost their home. If they hadn't been here ILLEGALLY, they wouldn't be having this problem. |

NO, NO, NO! Hell, they are robbing us blind and starting the fires to begin with. No to anyone who is not a US citizen and a complete taxpayer. I don't think they need anymore handouts, just a deportation notice. |

The Cost of Immigration
>Most immigrants are poor; indeed, that is why they come here. Through present immigration policy, we are admitting over one million mostly poor people into our society every year —a society that is already challenged to deal with the poverty of its natives.
Costs Table from the October 1996 Huddle Study
Program (amounts in billion $s) Legal Illegal Total
Public Education K-12 $14.38 $5.85 $20.23
Public Higher Education $5.55 $0.71 $6.26
ESL and Bilingual Education $2.82 $1.22 $4.04
Food Stamps $2.81 $0.85 $3.66
AFDC $2.71 $0.50 $3.21
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) $2.76 n/a $2.76
Housing $2.37 $0.61 $2.98
Social Security $21.92 $3.61 $25.53
Earned Income Tax Credit $3.69 $0.68 $4.37
Medicaid $11.43 $3.12 $14.55
Medicare A and B $5.49 $0.58 $6.07
Criminal Justice and Corrections $2.32 $0.76 $3.08
Local Government $15.32 $5.00 $20.32
Other Programs $18.41 $9.25 $27.66
Total Costs $111.98 $32.74 $144.70
Less Taxes Paid $82.38 $12.59 $94.97
Net Costs of Direct Services $29.60 $20.16 $49.76
Displacement Costs $10.96 $4.28 $15.24
All Net Costs $40.56 $24.44 $65.00
Percent of Net Costs 62.4% 37.6% 100%
The cost of immigration to our society is enormous. The most recent estimate places the net cost of post-1969 immigrants at $61 billion in 2000 alone ($35 billion from legal immigrants and $26 billion from illegal immigrants).1 This is after immigrants’ contribution in taxes has been subtracted. As high as the cost is now, the rising tide of immigration will lift it even higher in years to come. By the end of 2002, the annual net cost of immigration will have risen $66 billion.

Hmmm. This is a toughie, even though it shouldn't be!
The compassionate side of me feels pity for them.
But that's like having pity for a hungry looking wild grizzly bear coming up to a campsite in Yosemite, and feeding them some food. It's a HUGE mistake, and although it may seem terrible to not feed it, even though it looks starving, all you'd be doing is setting it on a path for trouble.
And it's pretty much the same here. Yes, they are humans and not bears -- but unlike bears, they can easily pick up and go back to their families in Mexico. If feeling compassion for them means offering them transportation back to the border, I'm all for that and think it should be offered for free.
But rewarding them for violating our soverign laws and making it doubly worse by paying them for losses incurred by a natural (or manmade) disaster begs the question: why shouldn't them same courtesies be given to CITIZENS as well (for free, and without requiring them to pay taxes, etc.)?
If we are going to reward lawlessness, we might as well go back to the frontier days and let everyone make up their own laws and decide which ones they want to follow.
If any people are allowed to flaunt the law and get away with it, especially in the millions, then ALL OF US have the inherent RIGHT to do the same. |

THey're not illegal , they lost their birth certificate in the fire.
Should we. NO!!!
Will we,. Probably. THis is California you know. |

First, we should offer them a quick and easy way to become American citizens, those who accept (which will be vast majority and will be very grateful ), we offer them aid. Those who refuse, well, time to leave.
Most the illegal Latinos I know ( I know a few ) desperately want to become legal residents but there's years of red tape involved.
They want to be here, to work, to have a stable place to raise and provide for their family.
Hey work, looking at our welfare system, that's something quite a few native born Americans don't seem to do, now isn't it ? |

if it was your mother, father, brother or sister who lost there home to the fires would you want the illegals to help you. i think you would, you wouldnt turn your back on them if it was them trying to help you you would welcome them with open arms. so get real and see that these people needs help like any one else. and by the way who says those mexicans out there who lost there homes are'nt legal. learn your facts before you worry about some one trying to help them. lord forbid if your house burns and you need help. it just might be a mexican that rebuilds it. |

Mr. Morden

If someone owns a house and is illegal then they do pay taxes, at least property taxes.
I say yes, on humanitarian grounds if nothing else. |
