Look. Hyperbole.
Illegal activity should remain illegal. But it should also be punished based on a scale equivalent to the actual harm done and the threat imposed.
Some people think illegal immigration should be a felony, equivalent to aggravated battery or grand theft. The punishment would be imprisonment and deportation, including any felony punishment for any accomplices.
Other people think illegal immigration should be treated as a paperwork crime, like driving without insurance. Under that model, the punishment is you pay a fine, you correct the problem (including back taxes), and if you've committed no other criminal actions (and have a legal job), then you can continue working and paying taxes without being deported.
Nobody is rationally suggesting amnesty. But paying a fine, having it recorded as a criminal misdemeanor, paying taxes and getting back to work isn't amnesty. It's acknowledging the illegal conduct, but not making a federal felony case out of it. |

Hmmmm ... how do you screen the illegals?? Will they all form an orderly line? And I agree .. let's just roll out a welcome mat at our borders and be done with it ... nahhhhhhh ... can't even joke about that .... |

DAR

No.
But I see your point. Bush wants to 'keep us a nation of laws' by making what they want to do legal.
Now that would demonstrate their willingness to follow laws. Not. |

Why not just have no laws for anyone period. |

Secure the border.
Screen the illegals.
Deport the undesirables.
Give the rest amnesty. |

Everyone I know in the US got here by being asked no questions. My great great grandparents came from Ireland and Austria. No one hassled them with proper credentials. |

So Coragryph,
So what your saying is that all illegal immigrants should be locked away for twenty or more years, for grand larceny of billions of tax payer dollars, right. And the companies that employee them, whether big or small, should go to federal prison for tax evasion, right.
Sounds good to me. |

Legalization isn't a solution to every problem, just the drug war. |

I think not --not even the first one-coming in illegally. |

What kind of a stupid question is that ? No, No, No crimes of any kind, should be allowed, especially those committed by illegals! Friends of mine got their children killed by mexicans-of course they never stood trial, which makes me completely sick!!! Of course, it's all because america has laws but since obviously nobody needs to abide by them there might as well not be any!It should be like it was back in the good old days where everybody took care of criminals in their own way!!! |

Sure, why not.......Why is it that you people keep beating the same topic to death over and over under immigration? Anyone that hasn't gotten the point isn't going to...as for your lame opinons, they really don't matter to the rest of the world or you wouldn't be bashing the same topic constantly. Think about it. |
