Should we make Spanish the official language in California or it's better to have two languages?

It's better to have two languages spoken. It would be more conveinient if everyone knew how to speak english, but that's a long and hard task to teach many.

Why not "Broken English" everywhere. It already exists in most areas. At the age of 7, I knew 6 languages.................................. broken English.

The main language of any place should be the language of the people that are from that particular place...

For example...Spanish/Spain Haiti/French or Creole USA/English

No. The official language should be ENGLISH. My grandparents learned it when they came here (yes, even with working, they found the time to learn) so the immigrants of today can learn it too.

The US don't have an official language. The Congress don't want to make English an official language, but want to make English into our "common" and "uniting" language.

Voters of California have already voted English the official language in California.

New Mexico is the only state that have English and Spanish as the official languages.

That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Look at the problems in Canada because of English and French. Where do you get your thinking from? This is the US and we speak English here.

The official language in all of the United States is English and should stay English. The Constitution of the U.S. should decree that English is the natonal language everywhere in the nation.What modern nation has ever changed the "official" language in any subdivision to accomodate immigrants? Imagine immigrants lobbying for a change in the official language in any part of England! The Swiss, because Roman Switzerland was very long ago settled by Germans in this area, French in that area, Italians in yet another area, evolved therefore into a multilanguage nation -- not because of recent immigration, but as a result of historic immigration. The Constitution of Switzerland provides for the official languages to be unchanged from what they were in each area in 1848: "Title 1, Art. 4 National Languages -- The national languages are German, French, Italian, and Romansh."

Another reason English should be the "official languaage" in the U.S. is that it is the language most recognized across the globe. Every international airport in every country that is recognized by th International Congress of Aviation Organization must have an English speaking controller on duty during all hours of operation. Why? Because "international" means there will be pilots from scores of nations who would otherwise be unable to communicate with air traffic control if there was not ONE common language agreed upon, and it was English. Even when Russia was the USSR every Russian interntional airport was required to observe this rule. Newcomers must accommadate to the customs in place where they arrive, they can't bring and impress their customs on those already there.

THIS IS AMERICA. THE LANGUAGE IS ENGLISH. I THINK IT SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT TO LIVE IN THE U.S. THAT YOU SPEAK FLUENT ENGLISH. NO IFS ANDS OR BUTS ABOUT IT.
