I posted this in an answer and wondered what people would think:
A much easier way to solve both the welfare and illegal problems is to require proof of citizenship at the welfare counter.
Then, if legal non-citizen residents couldn't get on welfare without being naturalized (essentially having to prove themselves as productive workers), most people would have fewer problems with making legal residency easier for otherwise law-abiding immigrants.

A big YES, and not just because you have a kid here. You can't get away with it in any other country. Why should we be any different?
No offense meant to anyone, but we're already $3 Trillion + in debt! Why do we keep sinking money into things we REALLY can't afford?
There's nothing wrong with coming to this country if you're willing to a.) WORK for what you need (as long as jobs are available) and b.) not make conditions worse for those of us already here. |

I think your definitely on to something. The simple fact that this isn't already regulated is beyond me. Everyday hardworking US citizens with health conditions struggle to get health insurance (which they will pay exurbanite premiums for), meanwhile the goverment is paying the medical costs for illegal immigrants. Something about this system doesn't seem right. I don't have anything against immigrants coming to the US to make a better life for themselves and their families, but they need to put their 2 cents, if you will, back into the system. |

YES, it's a shame that they don't check proof of citizenship, there are so many better places our money could go than to clothe and put food on the table for millions of people who aren't even supposed to be here in the first place. Like maybe give schools better funding so students won't have to use text books that are older than they are. |

They do use fake docs as people on here are saying however, all ssn's or TID's should be cross-checked in a database first to make sure everything is legit. How hard could that really be? Apparently very hard because many illegals are receiving welfare. |

In the state that I live in (Washington) that must be currently in the works. The reason why I say this is I got a letter recently from D S H S telling me that in order to continue receiving my benefits (I'M NOT RECEIVING ANY I MAKE TOO MUCH $) I need to provide proof of citizenship. This document did have my correct name, address, social security number, case number from when I did receive assistance years ago. My place of birth you ask? Billings Montana. I thought that did make me a citizen guess not. P.s. In case you are wondering yes I'm Caucasian. |

They do have to provide citizenship but it is forged so they still get it. You have to provide a drivers license, social security number and birth certificates but if you have forged ones it don't matter. |

Yes, but nowadays they have so many bilingual clerks who will just approve whatever if it is one of their 'countrymen' so that it doesn't really matter. |
