Simple Hypothetical question?
Find answers to your legal question.

Simple Hypothetical question?

Ok here's the scenario.
You live 50 miles south of the US.
You have a wife and two kids.
You just lost your poor-paying job and neither you nor your wife can get hired b/c they're no jobs to be found.
Your family risks starvation .

you can either A
try to come here legally as your family suffers from malnutriton
[the process takes years]

or B
take a risk and cross miles of desert in the hopes of getting a manual labor job that pays $3 an hour[which is about 300 pesos an hour] and feed your family
Additional Details
some of you are lying through your teeth

yes of coarse you'd stay and let your starve, some morals huh? as far as jobs in Mexico I just have to ask this
how many of you have been to Mexico? And no I don't mean the tourist parts

I would move to where there are jobs in Mexico (yes there are plenty of jobs) and set an example for my children as a lawful individual. I would also stop having babies because it doesn't make sense to have more when I don't have job and could barely pay for the ones I already have.

I would find a job, Mexico is a big country and there are always jobs if you are willing to work.

Are you honestly saying that Mexico, one of the top ten largest deposit of Oil in the world and according to the UN a better place to live than the UK, wouldn't have any jobs or be able to look after there own citizens.

Also if you looked into the immigration process it only takes 3 months to get a work permit for seasonal work in the USA, it takes years to gain permanent residency which if they are just looking for work they don't need.

?
It is a crock. Most of the people who illegally enter the US do not even bring their family with them.

The attraction is they can wire their money back to Mexico and make a profit off of their tax free labors here.

Are you seriously one of those naive people who believe that sob story: "My family is starving..."??

They also get payed more then 3 dollars and hour dear.

What happens if you go South instead of North?
There has got to be work in a place as booming as Mexico City if you have got some skills.

If I broke the law I would expect to have it enforced against me if I were caught.

Look at the other side. There are over 4 billion people in the world poorer than the average Mexican worker. Obviously we can't take them all. Why should this worker be more entitled than others?

We are the ones who have the right to choose who and how many can come, and we let in more people, and more poor people than any other country in the world.

Option C... Overthrow the Mexican government. Be accountable for your own actions. Educate yourself. Create prosperity in you own country or die!

labdoctor
A. Your scenerio goes to deep. Might be less than what he is making, but there is work.
B. $3.00 an hour a little far fetched. Most likely minimum wage if not higher. At least in Atlanta area.

I would look at where in Mexico I could go to get a job.

Mexico's unemployment rate as of last year is lower than the unemployment rate of the USA. 3.2% unemployment in 2006 in Mexico 4.8% unemployment rate in the USA in 2006.

Obviously there are jobs in Mexico.

Rabid Frog
How about option C, they fight the corruption and greed in Mexico's elite... Mexico is actually not doing so bad on the economic front - Mexico has a pretty good GNP and is far from destitute. We can all stand over here in the US and cheer our hearts out for the Mexican people but ONLY the Mexican people can stand up to corrupt officials and demand that the peoples voice be heard, and force a real change in Mexico. Do you have any idea how much just tourism alone would increase if corruption was brought under control?

I do not have any kids yet so I can not say what I would do for them but I can say that I would understand if Canada (the country to the North) did not want our problems added to the backs of their taxpayers and I would also understand if Canadians wanted us to go home and fix our own country.

By the way I have been to the "non tourist" parts of Mexico with an outreach program....

"Mexico is fairing better than the rest of Latin America: In 1993, the average per head of household earned $3,690 dollars. Over the next seven years, that number jumped nearly three fold to $9,966"

When I visited a small Mexican village I didn't notice anyone with a 'real' job. Instead they ran their own businesses, like selling milk, fish, baked goods, and ice cream. They grew their own food and raised their own animals. They cooperated and shared with all family members. I didn't see anyone homeless or starving. In fact, they all looked healthy and maybe even a bit fat. I'm sure it's different in different areas, but you make it sound like millions of these people have no choice but to come here illegally, and that is something I have never seen any reasonable proof of.

I am not lying and I've never visited any tourist areas in Mexico. I was there to help my ex-husband become a legal US citizen.

snnoogles
The 3 dollars a hour is a myth! The illegals are making 20 bucks an hour or more. And what's up with the 2 kid scenario. At least make it realistic. Let's see ... what I would do, is use birth control and get an education or trade (yes, Mexico has schools) and THEN after I could support a family, I would have one.

amnesty sucks
Either come LEGALLY or don't come at all!

Go to Mexico City and get help. You will be deported if you come here and will lesson your chances of being legal.

you go a point here . it is obvious most Americans only been to Can Cun . or Acapulco. to relax but the truth is if it was plenty of jobs in Mexico we would not been here at all some say we just like to break laws , whats with thatt do they think tha been Mexican means 'law breaker" come on . we are a hard working breed I don't deny some of us had committed heinous crimes but , theres a majority who came to this land to find a better life for our families back home . we are NOT criminals most of us was forced to come here to survive. that is nature. so when are we all going to live in peace with the neighbor?

The answer is B because people will always put self-interest ahead of any ideal especially when self-preservation is at stake.

americans have the same problems......but the difference is we put allot of effort into finding a job and dont give up as easy. You dont think americans have been faced with hardship.....we live in hardship. I would take A but it would never get the point of malnutrition.....I would have taken any job to put food on the table. I've seen my parents go through a hardship, my aunts, freinds, etc...its a part of life. Mexico City is growing and how it grows is in the hands of the Mexico government and citizens....not america. Go back years and see how they made it through....men left for months to find work. Familys made it through the great depression....hell my grandmother family had 6 kids and her dad wasnt working until he was offered a job pulling the switch on the electric chair.....sorry I just dont buy this senerio.

I wouldn't go to Canada if I lost my job here in America and couldn't find another one.

Obama=Establishment Demagogue
I would do what I have to do to feed my family, period....Also those saying get a job in Mexico City, have NEVER been there....They have a high unemployment rate, many do leave all parts of Mexico to find work in the cities....But how many jobs can you find with a population of over 22 million? NOT MANY....Jobs are scarce....Lastly, my family and their well being come before any govt's....

Still*Perfect
I would be an illegal immigrant- no questions asked, Why starve when you don't have to.
