Hi, i know dual citizenship is allowed, but what about 3? I am a canadian citizen, married to a french citizen, but has been working in a permanent job on a green card and will soon be eligible to apply for naturalization.
Any ideas?

Naturalization does not preclude you from being a dual or triple citizenship holder. the clause is there but the courts voided it. |

You might not want to naturalize. The first sentence in the naturalization oath is: ""I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen,..."
When an alien becomes a naturalized U.S. citizen, he is supposed to renounce his previous citizenship(s).
Now, someone like Mary Pierce the tennis player supposedly has 3 passports. Pierce was born in Montreal while her French mother and American father were on a trip to the city, but she has never lived in Canada. She is Canadian by birth, U.S. through her father, and French through her mother.
She is entitled to each citizenship and does not have to make a choice. A naturalized citizen makes a choice, and included in that choice is the renunciation of any previous citizenship. |
