AZ was doing duty by enforcing Federal law by arresting illegals and thus no law suits. How does this new AZ law help arrest more illegals? Or does it not?

Today on Fox News these lawyers said that Federal law gave written permission to many specific states and counties, they gave the numbers, to actually arrest illegals and also to take away business licenses of employers who hire illegals. So a bit confusing to me. Worth looking into what Fox said.

Before this law, if an illegal alien was apprehended and ICE blew off the arresting officer, the alien
was allowed back on the street. Now ICE has the choice of taking the alien and putting him in their
system, or allowing the alien to remain in jail for a extended period of time.
The law is an attempt to force or shame the feds into doing the jobs we pay them to do.
It seems to be working!!!

State and local police were not arresting illegals, they cannot enforce federal law, so they essentially copied the federal law to make it a state law so now state and local police can enforce immigration laws. SInce the Feds were not enforcing the law on the Az border Az took it upon themself to step in and protect their border using state law.
Your "detail" there is wrong, no Az officers have arrested illegals. They can aid federal agents in finding illegals, but only federal agents can make the arrest based on federal immigration laws |

They could not arrest illegals under the federal laws. They could only detain them and hand them over to INS. The federal government would then release them instead of enforcing the federal laws. The federal laws are also designed to make it difficult for any state or local police to be able to detain individuals. They have to go through extensive costly training for every individual officer.
The state law gives state and local police the power to arrest illegal immigrants without seeking permission from the federal government only to have the federal government shirk their duties. |
