Why don't we hear about it anymore? Did Americans finally realize that it's a waste of money, that it doesn't, and won't work?

It doesn't work. Most experts say that physical fencing would not drastically decrease the number of illegal immigrants entering the country.
A fence spanning the border would not prevent their entry to the country. And there is little evidence that a fence would be a successful deterrent to other would-be border crossers. In a survey done by Wayne Cornelius, director of the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at UC San Diego, 90 percent of respondents who intended to migrate to the United States were aware that border crossing was "very dangerous," but this failed to discourage them from their plans.

It will be built and the border will be secured, the detrimental effects on the US from illegals devaluing work, property and putting a strain on public resources needs to be stopped!! Also the drug trade needs to be stopped, and the chance of a terrorist crossing amongst the illegals and smugglers is a real threat. |

Considering that it is still being built (albeit in bits and pieces), it is still too early to say it's a failure, though it is a money pit.
You should check the news more often; the border fence/wall still shows up as a lead story. |

I always thought our military on the borders would work better. Of course with full authority to open fire on trespassers. Actually the wall is still being built. You say it won't work and that is because you know that illegal aliens are ruthless and will do anything to get here and mooch but nothing to help their own country. |
