Sponsoring spouse to US - does gift count?

I am trying to fulfill sponsorship requirements for bringing my spouse to live with me in the States (spouse is British.) I receive a financial "gift" and am wondering if it counts towards my income requirements since it is non-taxable. My state DOES count it as such.
Additional Details
I've received gift for 8 years, with no sign of stopping. Definitely not a "to bring spouse here" thing.

as long as it's now actually yours and not just a loan to make it look like it belongs to you. savings and other assets can be counted, but not at a one to one ratio. for immediate relatives, it's counted on a 1 to 3 ratio.

if your regular salery does not cover the poverty line set for 2 you need to forget it as the fees an all the time going back an forth is out of your reach

The thing is that the gift may be considered a fee for you marrying this person. And if that is the case, the visa will be denied and you will be charged for entering a fraudulent marriage for money. Thus, I would say that using it to count towards income is not a good idea.

Besides in the income requirement they are concerned with your regular income and NOT one time things. A one time thing is gone after you spend it. The income they want to know about is what you actually gross each and every month.
