Legal immigrants are given a physical and are screened for disease. Illegal immigrants who avoid the legal process skip this... that's just one of the dangers of having an unsecured border. |

Not just immigrants!
Anyone that enters the country from an area where TB is unchecked should be screened. |

It's definitely not a bad idea. |

I think immigrants should be handled in the same way they were years ago when they had to come legally (ellis island) and be screened and then sent back if they did not meet the set standards. Now they just swarm over the border and start demanding services from the government. What a disaster. |

All legal immigrants already are. Of course I think they should be screened. |

Yes or prescreened before they enter our Country. |

Yes. The immigrants should have to pay for it when it is done. Not the tax payers. |

Yes and many others too.But you see this is one of those questions which conflicts with other anti's questions. When they talk of the drain on health care.If a person uses an emergency room even for a cold almost always the doctor will order x-rays.TB shows up on x-rays.They would never allow a suspected TB case to leave without further testing. So which is it?Over use or under use of medical care.BTW before I forget again do people realize our latest surge with TB came from Asian Refugees?Yes ones who our government brought over LEGALLY but didn't require a physical for. That's right we don't do that anymore.I think it's wrong especially for us health care workers who are exposed daily. Not just immigrants should be tested but also American citizens.International travel has tripled in the past 10 years and so has TB and other diseases which previously had been eradicated. |

Yes, that is one of the reasons it is so important for the US to regulate immigration. It's not just a matter of being nice or kind to people who want to work hard for better lives. It is a matter of making sure that all people in the US can pursue better lives by not subjecting themselves to transmittable diseases, such as TB. |

I think any person that enters our country should be screened for diseases- and I'm pro-immigration. I'm all for people that want to come for a better life but they should definitely get tested for everything! |

no we should not screen them and waste money, just send them back home where they will die from their diseases.
Besides most immigrants ARE ILLEGAL.... so how are we to screen them?
We just need to deport before they kill more of our american citizens and army men in drunk driving accidents ( many here in maryland) |

Of course they should. Immigrants are screened for disease.
Illegal aliens are not screened. They are contributing to rising rates of TB, leprosy and other diseases
"Many illegal aliens harbor fatal diseases that American medicine fought and vanquished long ago, such as drug-resistant tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy, plague, polio, dengue, and Chagas disease."
In an article in the Journal of the American Medical Assn., Dr. Reuben Granich, a lead investigator for the Centers for Disase Control and Prevention, reports the emergence in the U.S. of a particularly virulent, multi-drug -resistant form of tuberculosis known as MDR-TB.
“Evidence of it has surfaced in 38 of 61 California health jurisdictions, and it could ‘threaten the efficacy of TB control efforts,’ Granich said. The infected were said to be four times as likely to die from the disease and twice as likely to transmit the disease to others.
“Reluctant to label the infected as ‘illegal’ or even ‘undocumented’ aliens, the report notes that of the 407 known cases of MDR-TB, 84% were ‘foreign-born’ patients, mainly from Mexico and the Philippines who’d been in the U.S. less than five years. The percentage of TB cases among the ‘foreign-born’ jumped from 29% in 1993 to 53% as of last year. |

Yes ,But we have free health care for them when they come here.Until the laws are changed. The tax payers are paying for it.Once they get here they let there visa exp. Then if the amnesty bill passes they get to stay here free pass again. Maybe we citizen should say were not from here thing we get anything freeeeee???? |

As far as I know.....all legal immigrants are. But considering the ease of global travel and all.....I beleive it should be taken alot more seriously even for those just visiting......things are mutating...their finding new threats in certain parts of the world that don't effect others......so absolutly people should be tested and the scope of tests expanded. Chagus is one I can think of that has spread through our blood supply because it's not something they have tested for. (below is a link) Which people may not show symptoms for.
I've always worked in the medical field or things mostly with the public and quite frankly.....I don't want to anymore. God bless those who do. But they put themselves and their families at risk each and every day being exposed to ill people. I know here just going the hospital or being put in jail could mean a perfectly healthy person becomes infected with that antibiotic resistant strain of staph. (could be strep) I know our grocery stores etc. put disinfectants wipes by the shopping carts to use and more and more cashiers are using surgical gloves to do their job. I'd hate to think of getting to the point where masks became a necessity to simply leave your home. |

IF you talking about latin americans to be screened for tb you ar as far from true as somebody can imagine !!!
Latinamericans countries vaccinate their people at the age of 3 month old then again at the age of 6 years old and finally the last time at the age of 12 years old !!,in contrast with Americans that never get TB VACCINES in their entire like!!!
that is my friend a fact!!!
do you ever wondering why latin Americans countries are poor ?
they are poor because the goverments use the tax money to give health care sistem for FREE ,also get paid COLLEGE FOR FREE in the case of URUGUAY that even a foreing in this place can go to college absolutly FREE .
Iknow that because I; been in this places !!!.
I think that your ignorance overthrow all the m iths and tales that a sick mind can create !!!
Americans like you make the world sick of hatred against your country!!!
another ignorant inventing and creating tales that do not fit in reality!!!
please ask your gov. about TB vaccines ,why is it that 3 world countries like in south America get vaccines and health care for free !!!?
and ask them too ,why countruies like CUBA got longest life expectancy than AMERICA!!!
DO YOUR MATH !!THINK FOR YOURSELF !! BE ONE !!
DO NOT LET THEM TO ANESTHESIATE YOU!!!! |

TB test is already one of the test that people have to take when they are going through green card process among other test are HIV, STD's and also a psychical.
It seems to me that the people that are on this section hardly know anything about immigrations laws.
What's up with that!!!!!! |
