Time period for k1 fiance visa question?

i want to know how long it usually takes from filling for a fiance in another country with the k1 visa to the time where the person gets their permanent residency. I understand that when k1 visa is approved we have 90 days to marry, so what if we do marry withing that period and file for the residency but haven't got it cleared when the 90 days expire. would the person have to return back to their original country and wait until the permanent residency visas are approved?(because they were only allowed 90 days and cant be extended)

The requirement of K-1 visa holder is to get married within 90 days upon arrival.Once you fulfilled that you can apply for your Adjustment of Status even beyond the 90days. There is no prescription period when to file for AOS as long that you got married within 90days.You will be out of status but you will not be illegal in staying in the US. The disadvantage however for not filing for AOS soon is you cannot apply for work and you cannot travel outside the US. |

No, they won't have to return to their country so long as they've fulfilled the requirements of the K-1 visa - i.e. gotten married and filed for an adjustment of status. |
