I agree, plus greedy as$ed producers don't want to pay people what its really worth to do the work, so they get all the Mexicans on it because w/o papers they can't really look for work other places. The real problem is with the greedy skinflint employers unwilling to cut a decent wage for the work they need, then complain when they can't get any Mexicans to work either. Everyone needs money no matter what country you started off in.

I have been doing those jobs for the last 20 years. I'm a lilly white American housekeeper so you'd better be rethinking your truths. I have mowed lawns,babysat,scrubbed toilets,washed dishes and even picked up dog ****. My mother was also a waitress from the age of 14-42 then she got her nursing degree. I would have no problem picking fruit for $12 an hour by the way but I think you made that part up.
P.S. My mother just reminded me that my grandmother used to pick oranges in California and she was also a lilly white American.

I've done all those jobs and more, and for 90 cents per hour, not no twelve dollars!
That's what minimum wage was when I started pumping gas and washing cars at age 18.
I worked over 60 hours per week, and did manual labor until I got some training when I was in my 30's.
I have picked apples, oranges, tomatoes, and peaches...
ALL DAY, in the HOT SUN.
I didn't complain because I am an American, and we are the BEST workers on earth!
What you are propagating is an urban myth with no basis in fact. Untold thousands of native-born Americans are doing those manual-labor jobs.
But, they do make some employers pay minimum wage, so they will hire illegals over us so they can undercut the wages.
I still cut grass, wash cars, paint houses, and put on roofs when needed. Americans are great workers, and anyone who says different is gonna get a fuss from me!

One little ad can't speak for everyone. Things like this take time to get out to the public. You set yourselves up for a high failure rate. Why? Statistics, I'll bet. You are the ones who are the real problem. I'm American, white & have worked in the fields, in the packing sheds, on the harvesters, & in the backlots of Southern California Racetracks. The tracks are also a part of the Agriculture Department, in case you didn't know this little fact. I worked with Caesar Chavez in the days when entire families lived in "hot-boxes" & the women were giving birth the malformed children with their limbs missing. There are plenty of us who want to work, yet many of us are being denied the work because of Polictical efforts & Media hype. Don't believe this crap. AMERICANS CAN & WILL WORK JUST AS HARD AS NON-AMERICANS. I'll bet you never tried soliciting any of the homeless shelters or going to the welfare department to recruit workers. An ad in the paper won't help those who cannot read. A lot of Americans can't read! Bet you didn't know that either.

Did you do any work? That doesn't prove Americans are lazy. Plus, let's do the math. You put an ad in a magazine for a COMMUNITY OF ALMOST ALL ILLEGALS for AMERICAN CITIZENS to come pick fruit and you wonder why only 2 CITIZENS showed up?

i wouldn't do those jobs either now, but i would have if that was all i could get when i was younger to gain experience in the work force. i would also do those jobs if i had absolutely no choice and had to support my family now. to say we won't do them is false, the fact is we don't have too.
if the illegals all had to go back to where ever they come from and went, i would venture to say that all of the jobs they do would get done. whether they were done by Americans or ways were found to automate them or by whatever way it happened.

You don't speak for me or any other citizens I know. In fact, I'd love to pick fruit for $12.00 an hour. But you won't see those types of jobs offered to citizens in my area. And certainly not for a decent wage like that. The factories used to have a starting pay like that, but illegals have depressed wages so much that most of them start employees out at about $7.00 per hour now.

i've lived in oxnard for 3 years off of harbor blvd. i dont check out the pennysaver maybe if you had put it in the newspaper, i'd ive gone. 12 dollars an hour hell yea. i work an an assistant manager at a retail store. for 10 dollars an hour. hec yea i'd get a job for 12 an hour i dont care what it is. i've raised chickens (GROSS) i've hauled large tree trunks for money. i've work in an assembly line testing printers. i've done lots of things. im not afriad to pick some veggies for $12 an hour.

HELLO ! This is a generalization because I am AMERICAN and I am not lazy. Like I have always said and I will say it 100 more times,if I were to lose my job tomorrow and fruit picking was the only thing available,I would do it in a heartbeat.

Nice try. I was stationed in Oxnard. Yes the community is at least 60% hispanic. I did this in a part time job while there in 2000.

You're full of beans. Lots of us pick strawberries and fruit and mow lawns. Lots of us have done it for a living, too. We do wash cars, paint houses, build houses, put on roofs, work as waiters, cooks, maids, waitresses, and nannies. We are unwilling to go into some areas because of the fact that they are primarily Hispanic and whites and English speakers are not welcome to work there. Believe me, many of us love to work in the fields and we do it with love. I have at least 8 neighbors who have a landscaping business that they started with they were in high school and they are still doing it today. They are all white. Additionally, we know many mechanics, and cooks and garbage men and women who are all white and glad to have a job. Just because you won't do this work doesn't mean it's not considered good work by other whites and Citizens who enjoy it but don't enjoy working among people who refuse to speak the language or obey the laws. After all, we work hard within the law, so why should we lower ourselves to associate with lawbreakers, gangbangers, scoff laws and people who want handouts and pity? Let's elevate the debate here!

Okay, you graduated college. I have known people who would have loved to make that kind of money. They work just as hard in hot factories to make less than that. You might feel that work is beneath you, but what if your family needed you to take a job like that to put food on the table? You wouldn't do it then?
By the way, I was in landscape maintenance, at two different companies, both commercial and residential. I am a legal, white citizen, born here. I also detailed cars, during a busy time for a local here.
So if this is your rationalization of giving the illegals amnesty, then it doesn't wash. We have more than enough people to do the work. And I would tell you now, I would wonder about the validity of an advert that said I could make that much per hour to pick fruit.
So, what does being in the Army have to do with picking fruit, washing cars, or amnesty? Not much of a question, so you have not made much of a point.
