UK visa extension to attend graduation?

I am currently doing a Postgraduate course under PSW (post study work) visa. My visa runs out on the first week of October. But I would like to stay until end of November to attend the graduation ceremony. The University told me that they cant help with visa renewals because I am not under a student visa and they told me that PSW visas cannot be extended.
Is there are temporary visa that I can apply to? or the only option is to go back to my country (Maldives) and come back in to the UK and ask for a visitors visa at the airport?
The 2nd option is risky (i might be turned down at the airport by the immigration) and it would be so costly to fly back home (which would involve 3 separate flights).
I was hoping to go to Ireland for a few days and return to the UK and ask for a visitors visa to be bonked on my passport. How practical is this do you think?

To go to Ireland and come back would not help, since based on the Common Travel Area there are no immigration controls on return from Ireland. You are supposed to leave the country if you did not find a job sponsor which would enable you to apply for a change into another tiered visa category..
It actually would be costly to get back home to the Maldives and return to try to seek leave to remain without visa without a guarantee of it being granted.
Why don't you just book a weekend-trip to Istanbul/Turkey on the weekend before your PSW visa expires. Flight and hotel (b&b) are offered to start from about £ 250. Citizen of the Maldives can get the visa at the airport at a fee of US$ 20 or € 15.

On return to the United Kingdom you can try to apply for leave to remain as tourist to attend the graduation ceremony and if not granted you just need to get one flight home instead of three. |
