My Dad is a 70yrs old, he does not speak English at all. However, he has lived in USA for 5 consecutive years. Can he apply and take the US citizenship test in Spanish.

What are official languages of USA? Is Spanish one of the official languages?
If yes, then he can, if no, then he cannot. I have seen that most of the old people dont care about citizenship & they carry on living with Green Card or Permanent Residence status. |

Since one of the requirements for US citizenship is mastering the English language that would be a 'no'.
Let me guess - he wants medicare and SSI. |

No, he needs to be able to take the test in English, that is the requirement. Maybe he should enroll in a ESL class or have someone teach him the basics of english. The Civics portion of the test is available in Spanish on
www.uscis.gov
He can learn them, but he needs to answer in English... |

No. He will not be exempt from the English test until he is 80.
Exemptions from English and Civics Requirements
Some applicants are exempt from the English requirements for naturalization based on their age and amount of time as a permanent resident. These applicants must still take the civics test.
You do not take the English test if you are Age 50 or older
Lived as permanent resident in the United States for 20 years
You still take the civics test in your language
You do not take the English test if you are Age 55 or older
Lived as permanent resident in the United States for 15 years
You still take the civics test in your language
You do not take the English test if you are Age 65 or older
Lived as permanent resident in the United States for 20 years
You still take a simplified civics test in your language |
