US immigration stop until job market better?

I am all in favor of immigration. At some point, unless you are Native American, your ancestors were immigrants -- many not speaking English when they came from the old world. However with millions unemployed currently in the US -- should the US stop immigration for a period of 1-2 years thus giving current residents of the US a better chance at jobs? I mean why let more people in right now if there are no jobs for them????

How can you just stop immigration?
From my perspective it seems a little crazy. I grew up in the UK, I speak English, I have a Bachelor's degree. I fell in love with a US citizen, and so now I am an immigrant. I went through the whole process legally (which wasn't a pleasant experience at all). Do you think it's ok just to say no to people like me? I wasn't out looking for a way to move to America, I just wanted to live in the same country as my husband.
It's tough to know what to do, and yes, I suppose I am taking a job away from an American by being here but it's pretty ludicrous to suggest that I shouldn't have been allowed to come here in the first place. |

That was a dumb statement considering that we're not immigrants. Just because our ancestors were immigrants doesn't make us immigrants. We're Americans, because we were actually born here. I think immigration should stop though. It would keep some of the moochers from coming over. |

That's kinda a double standards. Stating that because your ancestors were immigrants and now that your family had you born on these soils, it's now time to close it to other immigrants?
Let me point out that jobs are far far easier for a citizen to get then for an immigrant. For that matter, Government jobs are ONLY for citizens and sometimes green card holders. There are literally thousands of posted on USAJOBS.com that can only be applied to by citizens. |
