USCIS Interview for legitimacy of marriage?

My husband and I (he had a K1 visa) are going through the finishing parts of the process right now. (we are in the process of filing our I-485). Since before we were married I have thought (and worried) about the interview. I know I have nothing to really worry about because we do love one another and we are legitimate but I just worry that we will say something wrong or somehow make the interviewers doubt us (I love my husband dearly and do not want to lose him) I understand the process and think it is good to have the interviews etc to prove the legitimacy of marriages, however if they were very concerned about it why do they not do interviews in the couples home? I'm not saying to all couples applying but just pop in to the ones they doubt or to the randomly chosen ones (it may cost more money and be more man hours but don't you think it would be easier to find the liars?) I mean in someones home you can see whats going on (are both people living there? whats going on when the agents arrive? etc.) Wouldn't it be easier in some ways to catch the liars that way?

The interview will not be _in_ your home but at a USCIS facility.

It's easy to make a home look as if people are living there together.
In the interview, they separate you and ask questions that only an intimate partner would know the answer to, such as what side of the bed does s/he sleep on, what toothpaste do they use, what does s/he wear to bed, what is his/her favorite breakfast food, and other seemingly random questions. Don't worry. |

They interviewed my husband and I together. They did not interview us separately. We were each asked about 6 questions, and sent on our way. We had so much information sent in with our paperwork, I was shocked that they pulled us for an interview. Piece of cake... no need to worry. |

You can easily fake living together - buy 2 toothbrushes, put up a few pictures and fill the closets with someone else's clothes
Your interview could take place together or apart, depending on what sort of documentation you have, as well as which country your partner is from. If they are from a country where there has been known to be a lot of marriage fraud, then you will probably be interviewed separately
A friend and his wife just went through this. She is from Colombia (legally working as a surgeon in the US) and they were interviewed separately. Some of the questions they asked - what time is the alarm set for in the morning? how does your spouse take his/her coffee? does your spouse prefer red or white wine? when and where did you first meet his/her parents? what was the name of your spouse's childhood pet? how often does your spouse go to the gym? They are now waiting to hear the results, even though they have worked in the same hospital together for 2 years and have lots of pictures, emails, letters of support from work colleagues, etc. |
